Common precautions for wearing a watch
WearingWatchSweat on the skin can be corrosive to the watch case. All-stainless steel cases, being nickel-chromium alloys, offer better corrosion resistance, whereas semi-steel cases are made of copper and are easily corroded by prolonged contact with sweat. You should regularly wipe away sweat with a soft cloth or use a plastic watch stand to prevent erosion.
Do not open the case back unnecessarily to prevent dust from entering the movement and affecting the watch's performance.
Do not store your watch in a wardrobe with mothballs, as this can cause the watch oil to deteriorate.
Do not place your watch on radios or televisions to avoid magnetisation.
For watches not in use, wind them once a month to ensure the parts do not remain stationary for too long, thereby maintaining the performance of the movement.
