Exquisite Blancpain Ladybird: Striking a Chord at the 2016 Baselworld Women's Watch Showcase

2016 Baselworld New Product Preview: Blancpain Ladybird 2016 New Models

       “The title of the smallest round mechanical watch” has always accompanied the Ladybird. Blancpain ensures that women's mechanical watches not only possess the core of high-end mechanical watchmaking craftsmanship but also present a delicate appearance comparable to small-sized quartz movements. The Cal.6150 movement has a diameter of only 15.7 mm, and since its inception, it remains one of the smallest self-winding movements in the world.

       1956 saw the magnificent birth of the Blancpain Ladybird watch, which was equipped with the smallest round movement on the market at the time. Back then, petite and exquisite watches were all the rage, and Blancpain's master watchmakers, with their astonishing creativity and ingenuity, successfully shrunk the components of mechanical watches, achieving a true technical feat. With its exquisite exterior and powerful interior, the Ladybird watch, like a cute little “beetle”, flew into the world of women's watches. Because it fulfilled the aesthetic desire of women that “the smaller, the more exquisite”, it was highly sought after.

       2016 marks the 60th anniversary of the Ladybird watch. To commemorate this significant year, Blancpain designed a series of different Ladybird watches, one of which is the Ladybird Valentine's Day limited edition watch created for romantic Valentine's Day. The model exhibited at the 2016 Baselworld Watch and Jewellery Show is this newly interpreted Ladybird watch by the master craftsmen.

       The dial of this watch features contrasting bright patterns, shaped like layers of delicate leaves. The strap is specially crafted from Louisiana alligator leather, creating an exquisite and elegant aesthetic effect. To commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Ladybird watch, this timepiece is limited to 60 pieces, with the bezel set with 32 brilliant diamonds. On the dial, teardrop-shaped hands sweep lightly over hour markers set with dazzling diamonds and white gold. The watch is equipped with a white gold case with a diameter of only 21.50 mm. It is powered by a self-winding movement with a silicon hairspring, and the oscillating weight is made of platinum PT950, demonstrating the perfection of its details. Furthermore, the inclusion of a silicon hairspring helps to better protect the watch from magnetism ——, ensuring that women's watches also enjoy the latest upgraded materials. This is a promise Blancpain has made to the world of women's watches, as well as a sign of its respect and love for mechanical watchmaking traditions.
