How much do Citizen watches cost in Japan?
Citizen has consistently upheld a multicultural philosophy, persevering in the pursuit of excellence and committing to innovation. The word CITIZEN expresses our boundless respect for craftsmanship and our fine aspiration to be close to citizens all over the world. Citizen watches are not only functional, but also incorporate many technological elements. Eco-Drive radio-controlled watches are among them and are immensely popular domestically. So how much does it cost to buy a Citizen watch in Japan?
Theoretically speaking, buying Japanese-made watches in Japan will certainly be cheaper than selling prices in China, owing to the absence of tariffs. Secondly, as foreign tourists, most shops offer tax-free privileges; consumption tax in Japan currently (2012) is 5%, so please present your passport to the store assistant when purchasing to enjoy the discount. In addition, many Japanese merchants run campaigns with UnionPay, and customers paying with a UnionPay card will enjoy an extra 5% discount on top of the aforementioned reductions.
Of course, another matter is the pricing of watches; Japanese product pricing generally falls into two categories. One is manufacturer-specified pricing, such as Apple products and the like. This retail price is not controlled by the stores themselves, but generally speaking, stores will offer a 5% to 10% discount on this basis. The other is Open Price, where the pricing is determined by individual stores. Citizen watches presumably belong to the latter, with watch prices decided by the merchants themselves.
