Watches for Older People, How Older People Should Choose a Watch
In today's era of rapid technological advancement, the function of telling time on a watch has been replaced by mobile phones. More often, a watch serves as an ornament. Yet for middle-aged and older people, watches are inextricably linked to their lives; older individuals generally dislike using mobile phones. Therefore, older generations rely much more on watches. So how should middle-aged and older people go about choosing a watch?

Firstly, it needs to match one's age; for instance, it would be inappropriate for an elderly person to wear a fashion watch. Avoid trendy, flashy designs or anything cartoonish and childish, as those are clearly unsuited.
Secondly, the weight of the watch should not be too heavy, which also means avoiding ones that are too thick. A large yet thin dial is best, with large graduations so that the time can be read clearly.
A choice must also be made between mechanical and quartz watches; personally, I feel that quartz watches are best for middle-aged and older individuals. There is no need to spend time winding them, timekeeping is accurate without frequent adjustment, and one simply needs to change the battery. There is no need to worry about forgetting to wind it and causing inaccurate timekeeping.
If one must buy a mechanical watch, do not choose self-winding either. Because elderly people have lower activity levels, wearing an automatic watch can lead to stoppage, inaccurate timekeeping and other issues. In that case, it is better to buy a hand-wound one.
The functions should be as simple as possible; watches with too many dial hands or buttons are not recommended. For elderly people, the simpler the better—some functions are of no direct use to them, and having too many only serves to confuse them.
It is recommended not to wear overly precious watches; as one grows older, material desires diminish greatly. Brands and the like no longer matter; what is wanted is nostalgia, being able to reminisce upon seeing the watch. Furthermore, overly valuable watches are unsafe, and poor memory can lead to losing them.
