What are parallel import watches, and what is the difference between parallel imports and officially imported goods?
In fact, the place of origin for most parallel imports and official goods is the same. All original imported or domestically produced watches must first converge in Hong Kong before being uniformly dispatched to various regions in Asia. However, during transit from Hong Kong, if smuggled in individually without customs duties, it is a parallel import. Because its movement serial number is not within the mainland China sales range, it cannot receive manufacturer warranty service for one year. (Watches bought officially from Hong Kong counters come with an invoice from the local distributor and can be serviced domestically.) To distinguish between parallel imports and official goods, authorised counters are often unable to do so effectively; one can only go to a watch service centre, have the watch opened, open the case back, and check the movement serial number. Nowadays, service centres are generally unwilling to do this. Nevertheless, parallel import watches are also genuine watches and have their own value.
