Which type of watch is better, and should you choose a quartz or mechanical watch?
There is a vast variety of watch models on the market. Some friends may not know which type to choose when purchasing. Below, we will explain this for you!
The timekeeping accuracy of a quartz watch is about 100 times higher than that of a mechanical watch. The daily error of a quartz watch is within 0.5 seconds, while a mechanical watch has a daily error of about 45 seconds, which may fluctuate faster or slower depending on temperature changes.
Mechanical watches are generally expensive. Because craftsmanship is crucial and mass production capacity is lower, they usually cost at least 1000, whereas quartz watches have plastic movements that are easy to process and circuit boards that can be mass-produced, making them more affordable.
Quartz watches require virtually no maintenance, while mechanical watches need to be wound daily. Quartz watches do not require winding and only need a battery change every two years. It is difficult to precisely align the second hand when setting a mechanical watch, whereas quartz watches allow for easy stopping of the second hand.
The proud advantage of a mechanical watch is its excellent cultural taste; a well-crafted mechanical watch is a pleasure to behold, enhances the owner's status, and brings a sense of aristocratic glory.
Mechanical watches have a very long lifespan because they rely on metal movements, which can serve you and your descendants faithfully for over a hundred years; many people keep them as heirlooms. Due to their circuitry and plastic movements, quartz watches have a lifespan of about 10 years at best, and many fail within 5 years.
In summary, if you are looking for convenience and practicality, buy a quartz watch; if you are buying it as a gift or to reflect your noble status, choose a well-crafted mechanical watch.
