Which is better, Audemars Piguet or Patek Philippe?
Both Audemars Piguet and Patek Philippe are top-tier luxury brands, and the two brands are also among the few surviving independent watchmaking companies with a history spanning over a century. Although Patek Philippe has broken away from the control of its founding family, it has achieved remarkable and conspicuous success under the diligent management of the Stern family who subsequently took over. Meanwhile, Audemars Piguet remains under the control of the founding family, maintaining its independent status through generations of heritage, and its achievements are naturally undisputed.

However, if a true comparison is to be made, it must of course start with the products, as products provide consumers with their most direct impression. We often say that traditional mechanical watches are roughly divided into two categories: dress and business watch models, and sports and casual watch models. I think whether in terms of brand recognition or market share, Patek Philippe surpassing Audemars Piguet in the realm of dress and business watch models should be beyond question. However, the sports and casual watch models of these two brands feel evenly matched to many people, referring primarily to the Patek Philippe Nautilus collection and the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak collection. This is because both collections are indeed very famous and both boast many loyal fans.

Starting with the Nautilus,Patek Philippe Nautilus collection watchFounded in the nineteen-seventies, although named Nautilus, the watch's shape was inspired by the portholes of ocean liners, and it takes its name from the Nautilus submarine found in the deep sea; in other words, the name actually comes from the submarine. In 1976, Patek Philippe officially launched the first watch of the Nautilus series, Ref.3700, which was a men's watch with a water resistance of 120 metres. To ensure effective water resistance, this timepiece adopted an integrated structure crafted from stainless steel. At the time, the advertising slogan "It goes just as well with a wetsuit as it does with a tuxedo" helped it start to become popular in Geneva.

Moving on to the Royal Oak,the Audemars Piguet Royal Oak collectionit can be said to be a legend of Audemars Piguet, reputed to have pioneered the luxury sports watch genre. Its rugged octagonal case and eight exposed hexagonal screws have become its distinct features, offering extremely high recognition. This collection debuted in 1972, predating Patek Philippe's Nautilus collection by 4 years. After more than 20 years of development, Audemars Piguet launched the Royal Oak Offshore collection in 1993 based on the Royal Oak collection, which can also be considered an upgraded version of the Royal Oak, clearly intending to continue deeply cultivating the luxury sports market. The reality has also been "extraordinary", as Audemars Piguet's Royal Oak collection has consistently captured people's hearts.
Both Audemars Piguet and Patek Philippe are top-tier luxury independent watchmaking companies and exceptionally fine watchmakers. Although Audemars Piguet currently trails slightly in the domain of dress and business watch models, in a comparison of sports and casual collections, their current performances are considered by many to be virtually neck-and-neck, each with its own characteristics, allowing watch enthusiasts to make their choices entirely based on their personal preferences and inclinations.
