Vacheron Constantin 2016 New Overseas Watches
Vacheron Constantin reinvents its iconic classic collection, the — — Overseas series. On this occasion, Vacheron Constantin has introduced five new watches (12 models) adhering to the principles of casual elegance and robust practicality. The new watches are all powered by movements manufactured in-house, — — including three new calibres, — — representing a new generation of automatic mechanical timepieces that embody the spirit of travel. All watches in this collection, whether in stainless steel or gold, from basic displays to complications, are certified with the Hallmark of Geneva and paired with easily interchangeable bracelets/straps, ensuring a comfortable wearing experience for the wearer wherever they may be. In addition to basic display functions (hours, minutes, seconds, with or without date), the new collection also introduces chronograph and ultra-thin models.

Since the end of the nineteenth century, the watchmaking industry has achieved many major breakthroughs in both anti-magnetism and water resistance, which are precisely the two starting points for Vacheron Constantin in creating sports watches. In 1885, by combining metal parts such as palladium, gold, and copper, the world's first anti-magnetic timepiece was manufactured. In 1898, Vacheron Constantin introduced a water-resistant pocket watch capable of withstanding extreme environments, and its highly characteristic robust case design became a pioneer of contemporary sports watches. In the 1930s, stainless steel watches featuring a screw-down bezel and case, and using sapphire crystal, made a brilliant debut. In addition to distinct technical features and a sporty appearance, these timepieces also featured a three-dimensional decorative design with ten rounded corners for the “ base ” case. Decades later, Vacheron Constantin reinterpreted this design in the 1970s and launched several classic pieces, including the famous “ 222 model ” watch introduced in 1977 to commemorate the brand's 222th anniversary. This sports watch featured a screw-down bezel and caseback, with water resistance up to 120 metres. Designed specifically for those who aspire to an active lifestyle, it was also the inspiration for the first Overseas collection watch in 1996. Based on the spirit of travel and a global outlook, this collection integrates a variety of exquisite crafts and quickly became a representative work demonstrating Vacheron Constantin's level of craftsmanship. The Overseas collection features a dynamic, streamlined appearance and an iconic bezel design, and its robust caseback is engraved with the three-masted ship pattern of the famous navigator Amerigo Vespucci, as if inviting you to explore the seven seas together. Over the years, Vacheron Constantin has continuously developed and refined the Overseas collection, such as the metal bracelet watch decorated with the brand's Maltese cross logo introduced in 2004. In 2016, the new Overseas creations engraved with the Hallmark of Geneva will become the brand's masterpieces setting sail in the twenty-first century.

Ergonomic, fluid lines, subtle light and shadow effects, and exquisite craftsmanship allow the new Overseas models to lead the way in modern aesthetic design. The curved appearance of the case ensures a seamless connection with the bracelet or strap, combining technical precision with aesthetic texture. The six-sided three-dimensional bezel design and the fluted crown also echo the brand's design aesthetics. The rounded bezel and case, with polished and satin-brushed finishes, draw the eye to the exquisite dial, with the sapphire crystal fitted with anti-reflective treatment on both sides. The dial is divided into four tones according to the different model series: translucent blue, silver-toned, rosy pink, and grey-lacquered, which further highlights the depth of the watch, while the dial patterns alternate between sunburst, snailed, and velvety smooth finishes. Luminescent hands and hour markers complement the gold borders surrounding the bezel, while Arabic numerals ensure optimal legibility. The sapphire crystal screw-down caseback offers a clear view of the 22K gold oscillating weight inside the watch, which is decorated with a compass rose pattern indicating the cardinal points for global travellers, and has undergone multiple processes such as sandblasting, polishing, and texturing.

Adhering to the travel spirit of the Overseas collection, the new products introduced this time are comfortable to wear, convenient, practical, and fully meet various needs. All watches are equipped with automatic mechanical movements. A soft iron casing ring effectively protects the watch from magnetic fields, ensuring its precision and durability. Meanwhile, the transparent screw-down caseback ensures that the ultra-thin model and other models have water resistance of 50 metres and 150 metres respectively.
Another major feature of the new Overseas collection is the modularity of its components. This time, Vacheron Constantin has introduced three easily interchangeable stainless steel or precious metal bracelets, — — and the easy-to-remove interchangeable device further enhances the overall comfort of the watch, — — which is also the case for the leather and rubber straps. The original interchangeable device on the bracelet/strap and the folding clasp/pin buckle allows customers to safely disassemble and replace them without using any tools, while not affecting the robustness and durability of the bracelet or strap.
The Overseas collection bracelets/straps have an exquisite and charming appearance: the polished inner angles of the curved satin-brushed metal bracelet are engraved with half Maltese cross decorations; the rubber strap is also decorated with this Vacheron Constantin brand logo; the flat-tip alligator leather strap is paired with a soft and comfortable calfskin lining and a pin buckle, perfectly combining wearing comfort with sporty aesthetics.

All new Overseas collection timepieces are hallmarked with the Poinçon de Genève. As the most authoritative mark of supreme quality, the Poinçon de Genève was established in 1886 and is certified by an independent, neutral body. It is not only a proof of the timepiece's origin but also a prestigious symbol of its superior quality and exceptional performance. The Poinçon de Genève is awarded only to watches assembled and adjusted within the territory of Geneva, and the movement's construction and performance must also meet a series of extremely stringent standards.
For consumers, the Poinçon de Genève serves as a fourfold guarantee of a watch's origin, durability, precision, and expertise. Produced under ultra-high manufacturing standards, these timepieces are the perfect embodiment of robustness and aesthetic quality, while respecting and carrying forward traditional hand-craftsmanship. Since 1901, Vacheron Constantin has been the most loyal advocate of the Poinçon de Genève.
