Many of you will be familiar withJaeger-LeCoultrethis watch and know it is exceptional, but do you know exactly what makes it so good?

  (I) In-house movement

Jaeger-LeCoultre watchesAt its inception, the company specialised in the production of precision watch components and subsequently introduced hundreds of watch movements, establishing its position in the Swiss watchmaking industry. Since its founding, Jaeger-LeCoultre has been one of the few watchmaking companies in the world to produce its own movements, owing to the extreme diversity of its production. In the high-end movement sector specifically, some other brands with low sales volumes for their own high-end watches have opted to use movements produced by Jaeger-LeCoultre.

(II) The engine of the Swiss watch industry

The President of the Fondation de la Haute Horlogerie once said: Jaeger-LeCoultre is the engine of the Swiss watch industry.Jaeger-LeCoultreIt once won a gold medal at a world exposition and achieved an astonishing export sales figure of over ten billion francs. Jaeger-LeCoultre belongs to the luxury watch category. There are very few models in the domestic market with an official price below 50,000 yuan; most are between 80,000 and 200,000 yuan, and prices as high as one million are not uncommon.

  (III) First-class quality and design

TakeJaeger-LeCoultreone of the most famous watches, the Reverso. Since its debut in 1931, it has remained virtually unchanged and is a classic of Art Deco design. The rectangular swivelling case of this legendary watch can be fitted with different movements, particularly complex ones such as minute repeaters, tourbillons, and perpetual calendars. In 2006, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso celebrated its 75th anniversary. Another signature collection, the Master, represents the pinnacle of precision watchmaking; the round case houses Jaeger-LeCoultre's most complex and highly regarded movement structures. In 1992, Jaeger-LeCoultre established the most rigorous 1, 000-hour quality test for the Master collection, setting a new benchmark for watch quality, which was extended to the Reverso collection in 2004. The Master collection inspired the brand to launch another masterpiece, the Master Compressor watch collection, which perfectly combines elegance with a sporting spirit. It features a patented compression key crown, writing a new chapter in the history of mechanical watches. In 1929, Jaeger-LeCoultre introduced the 101 calibre, which still holds the record for the world's smallest mechanical movement: the 101 jewellery watch is exquisite and elegant, and was highly acclaimed, even worn by Queen Elizabeth II at her coronation. The new Ideale collection launched in 2004 further highlights the brand's exquisite design for elegant women's jewellery watches. Furthermore, the Atmos clock, which operates on atmospheric pressure changes, has continued to surprise the world since its introduction, with constant innovation and revolutionary breakthroughs. This is sufficient evidence that the quality of Jaeger-LeCoultre watches is beyond question!

From rare artisanal crafts to exceptional technology, Jaeger-LeCoultre brings together over 180 watchmaking skills. From cutting and rolling, case manufacturing, and heat treatment, to the decoration of movement components, electroplating, case polishing and decoration, as well as finishing and adjustment, Jaeger-LeCoultre's watchmakers strive for perfection in every process. Jaeger-LeCoultre is one of the few watch manufacturers in the world today to master the technique of miniature enamel painting. This ancient art was lost for nearly a century. In 1994, the manufacture decided to unveil the mysteries of this craft. As this technique requires the combination of enamelling, painting, and metallurgy, it took Jaeger-LeCoultre several years to reproduce miniature paintings on the Reverso watch for the first time, with its artistic value owed to the patience of the master craftsmen. Today, the three enamellers at the Jaeger-LeCoultre manufacture have mastered all traditional techniques: grand feu enamel, champlevé, translucent, and cloisonné enamel. Upholding a spirit of inquiry, they have developed a patented process that gives the work extraordinary depth: by tilting the miniature enamel painting slightly under a light source, one can see rich variations in colour, revealing unique visual effects and breathtaking details.

Engraving tools have existed for centuries: the chisels, scissors, files, and hammers used today are much the same in tool and material as those used by the Egyptians and Trojans. The chisel is directly descended from the rough scraper. The wooden handle of the bevelled steel scissors is round and fits perfectly in the palm, as the strength of the hand determines the depth of the blade's cut into the material. To carve details and push refinement to the extreme, the engraver must use chisels of various sizes. The engraver personally sharpens the chisels using sandstone wheels, grinding wheels, and oilstones. As the saying goes, "a workman must sharpen his tools if he is to do his work well"; only on an impeccable polished surface can the engraving of shaded areas be completed. After years of practice, an engraver can work on gold, stainless steel, or platinum. First, a sketch is drawn, and the pattern is carved directly onto the back of the Reverso watch with the tip of a blade. Afterwards, the drawing is refined with chisels according to the appropriate engraving style. An old engraving manual contains the following sentence: "Where the hand reaches, the pattern naturally appears; only then can it be perfect."
