THE JOURNAL
Are only nouveau riche people buying Cartier watches?
Yi Shu, the seasoned spiritual mentor of the petty bourgeoisie, wrote this in The Store of Life: The wealthy girl Conghui said, 'Dad spoils Mum a lot, and Mum's jewellery is all from Gubelin.' Xibao asked in surprise, 'Cartier watchany good?' Conghui laughed, 'That's a jeweller's for upstarts; upstarts only know Cartier.' This... actually, Cartier is really not just worn by upstarts; it is clearly worn by wealthy people, isn't it.

King Edward VII of the United Kingdom famously said: Cartier, jeweller to kings and king of jewellers. I think this quote represents Cartier's standing among numerous jewellery brands. So do people with taste not wear Cartier? NO, even the British Queen endorses Cartier,
In fact, this elderly lady, from her grandmother to her mother, herself, her younger sister, her disliked aunt the Duchess of Windsor, and her disliked former daughter-in-law Diana, have all worn Cartier. By the way, Edward VII was her great-grandfather. Therefore, the Queen's own eighteenth birthday present was a Cartier tiara. Not to mention European royalty and the Russian court. They are even more loyal fans of Cartier. Cartier is fundamentally still a jewellery shop.

However, no matter what and how impressive it is, Cartier is just a jewellery shop; anyone who walks inside is a client, except that its prices are a bit high. This has nothing to do with taste, only with price. In terms of positioning and recognition, Cartier is currently among the top three luxury jewellery brands on earth.
In the era of workshops, haute couture was already Cartier's main business. Back then, Tiffany was still promoting itself at the Paris International Exposition. Although officials will not admit it, there are actually still two Cartiers today: the first is the Cartier in boutiques that you can buy if you have money; the second is the consistently aloof haute couture Cartier. The latter supports the brand's high status as a whole. The former supports Cartier's sales figures. But general upstart friends tend to prefer the haute couture collection because it is cool and individual. But you cannot say Cartier is an upstart brand just because of this; saying so is incorrect.

Why do people say Cartier is worn by upstarts? I believe a large proportion of people read Yi Shu's The Store of Life and took it out of context. Then another portion are people like the editor here who cannot afford it and feel bitter about it. This brings to mind how Yi Shu described Cartier in another book: Up to this point, I still do not know how to propose marriage to him; perhaps I should go to Cartier to buy a small and exquisite ring, take champagne to his place, and kneel down to propose. —— To the End of the Road

So is Cartier recommended for purchase? In fact, Cartier also has a commendable performance in the watchmaking field, especiallyCartier Ballon Bleuand watch models like the Tank are favoured by many consumers, and if you like them, they are worth recommending.
