According to Japanese media reports, French luxury brand Cartier recently announced that from 8 5 it would reduce prices in Japan on almost all products, including Cartier watches and jewellery, with an average reduction of 10%.
Previously, major luxury brands repeatedly raised product prices due to the depreciation of the yen, but cutting prices as the yen strengthens is relatively rare.
Between 2013 and early this year, the persistently weak yen had a huge impact on Japan's tourism industry. For visitors, travelling in Japan became very attractive, and the prices of some of the most popular luxury goods were at one point lower than in Hong Kong, China. However, as the yen appreciated, the "spree buying" trend among Chinese tourists shifted, and sales moved away from expensive items like jewellery to cosmetics and everyday goods.
