What is a sports watch?
Generally, the outer bezel of a sports watch is engraved with progressively smaller numbers such as 500/400/350. These numbers represent the physical quantity of speed, with the unit being kilometres per hour. This bezel is also known as a tachymeter. Watches featuring this type of bezel are typically sporty and represent the most common calculation scale system found in chronographs. The application of a tachymeter is used in conjunction with the watch's own chronograph function.
How do sports watches measure speed?
Take a car travelling on a motorway as an example. Distance marker posts are usually erected along motorways. Start the stopwatch when passing the starting point, and the second hand begins timing from the 12 mark. When travelling 1 kilometre, stop the timing; the figure indicated by the hand at this point is the average speed over the preceding kilometre. For instance, if there is a 60 at the 12 position, it means 1 kilometres were covered in a minute, so the speed is 60 kilometres per hour.
How is numerical calculation performed?
How are the positions corresponding to the numbers on the bezel calculated? In fact, it is not difficult. You simply need to know at which position the number 500 is engraved, and then perform a simple division: calculate how many seconds it takes to travel 1 kilometre at a speed of 500 kilometres per hour, with the unit being seconds.
1 hour = 3600 seconds, which means 500 kilometres take 3600 seconds to complete. 1 kilometres will require 3600 divided by 500 equals 7.2 seconds. Therefore, 500 must be engraved at the 7.2-second mark on the dial. Other numerical scales follow the same principle.
What types of sports speed-measuring watches are available?
Nowadays, watch functions have also added GPS speed measurement and 3D pedometer sensor speed measurement. 3D pedometer watches come with a speed display function or wireless heart rate monitoring; these features are undoubtedly perfect for friends who love fitness and sports.
Summer is the season for showing some skin, and many friends have put together various exercise plans for themselves, such as running, swimming, cycling, and so on. These activities are full of positive energy and youthful vitality, but the editor would still like to remind you that, besides wearing these sports watches while working out, you should also warm up beforehand too~
