Method for Manually Removing Spring Bracelet Links

Step 1: Use the pin included with the bracelet adjustment tool or a pair of scissors to press against the spring bar and remove it.

Precautions: Be very careful not to let the spring bar spring away and get lost; the author lost it when the spring bar popped out and it took ages to find. Please pay close attention.

Step 2: Remove the link by pushing out the pin in the direction of the arrow.

Precautions: Calculate the position before disassembling. For instance, if you plan to remove two links, you can take out links 1 and 3, leaving two links spaced properly in between to be removed. When detaching the clasp links, use a tool to 'prise' rather than 'push', as pushing the small protruding catch is far too difficult. Simply work the pin tip into the gap (you may need several attempts), and once inserted, apply slight pressure to prise it open. Do not use excessive force to avoid damaging components.

Step 3: Remove the other clasp link

Precautions: As mentioned earlier, make sure to calculate the links carefully. Those who have viewed the image above should understand the function of the 'pin'—it merely secures the next link. Make sure not to disassemble the wrong part; if you do, you will need to put it back and start over, though it is not a difficult task and the procedure is identical to the above.

Step 4: Once both clasp links have been removed, reattach the head of the spring bracelet

Please note: store any removed parts safely as they can easily be lost. Because the components are very small, even if you might not use them again immediately, they are irreplaceable should you ever need them. Sourcing such small items is troublesome and they are not sold everywhere.

  Step 5: Installation complete

Please note: of particular importance during installation, what should you do if the pin is too tight? It is quite simple: just place those two bracelet links flat sideways against the edge of a table and tap them lightly with a small object to seat them. I use a lighter; pressing them in by hand is likely difficult. Ensure the main dial is not subjected to any shock during the process, and avoid using excessive force. If it does not seat on the first attempt, you can try a few more times.

In addition, Xiaoya will also explain how to remove leather straps.

  1. When you receive a new strap, do not rush to install it. First, compare the strap with the lugs to make sure the size is correct before proceeding.

  2. The strap is secured to the lugs using spring bars (which feature retractable springs at both ends) that lock into the holes on either side of the lugs.

  3. Use the notched end of a spring bar tool to engage with the spring bar on either end between the strap and the lugs, press down the spring bar towards the strap, and remove the strap.

  4. The side with the buckle should be fitted on the side pointing towards 12 o'clock, and the side without the buckle should be fitted on the 6 o'clock side.

  5. First place the strap with the fitted spring bar into the hole on one lug, then use the spring bar tool to press down the other end and guide it into the lug, moving it gently until you feel the spring bar click into the hole.

  6. Repeat the process for the other side of the strap, and finally give the strap a gentle tug to ensure it is securely installed.

You must pay close attention to every detail when removing spring straps. Otherwise, if you damage the watch, you will still have to take it to someone else for repair, which could end up costing you more and not being worth the trouble.
