The latter case is often because the dial diameter is too large while the caseback diameter is relatively small. The structure of the case is also divided into two-piece and three-piece. The so-called two-piece consists of only the case and the caseback, while the three-piece, in addition to the case and the caseback, also has a bezel. The bezel is usually pressed or screwed onto the case middle. This design is mainly intended for removing the movement from the direction of the crystal, though some are also for aesthetic and decorative purposes.

　　The three-piece case structure is more complex, and disassembly and assembly are also more troublesome. The main issue is water resistance, because it requires one more waterproof gasket than the two-piece case, making it difficult to completely guarantee the watch's water resistance. A typical example is the LONGINES La Grande Classique series. This watch is relatively thin.
