How do you adjust the date on a FOSSIL watch?
FOSSIL is an American fashion watch brand that is hugely popular among young people in China. However, some friends still do not know how to adjust the date on a FOSSIL watch. Let me explain how to do it!
How do you adjust the date on a Fossil watch?
1. Be extremely careful not to adjust the calendar between 9 pm and 3 am. During this period, the gears that change the calendar start to engage with each other; forcing a calendar adjustment manually is very likely to cause gear damage or misalignment. Naturally, for watches without a day/night display, it is impossible to distinguish 9 am from 9 pm, and the exact range of this time window varies slightly depending on the movement model. The simplest method is to first adjust the time into the 5 to 7 o'clock range, which is the safest window and applies to all watches.
2. The tiny components inside a precise mechanical watch are quite fragile compared to human force. Therefore, if it is your first time setting it or if you are not yet proficient, reading the brand instruction manual carefully beforehand is essential. Never exert excessive force when encountering unexpected resistance, as this might be due to an operational error. Gentle movements can prevent unnecessary damage.
3. When wearing or storing the watch, the crown should be kept in its normal position, and a screw-down crown should be fully locked to ensure water resistance and prevent dust ingress. The first position is for manual winding, the second position is for quick calendar adjustment, and the third position sets the time.
4. Set the calendar to the day before today. For example, if today is the 30th, set the calendar to the 29th, then advance the time clockwise until the calendar automatically flips to the 30th, indicating it is midnight on the 30th. Then set the time to the current time. This method prevents the watch from changing the calendar date at noon in future. Note that if the current time is in the afternoon or evening, you need to pass 12 o'clock once more when setting the time.
5. To prevent mishaps, try to adjust the hands in a clockwise direction as much as possible.
6. For manual-winding watches, be particularly careful not to overwind to avoid snapping the mainspring. Automatic movements feature a mechanism to prevent overwinding, so this issue does not occur; if fully unwound, winding about 20-F times is enough to ensure normal timekeeping.
Watch maintenance methods
1. Frequently use a relatively soft cloth or silk to gently wipe away dirt and sweat stains on the case.
2. Manual-winding mechanical watches should be wound at a fixed time, preferably fully wound at one go. When turning the crown, the speed should be moderate, and do not wind it too tightly. Over-winding can easily cause the mainspring to stick to the oil in the barrel. When the mainspring relaxes, it can easily break due to excessive elasticity.
3. Watches are most sensitive to violent vibrations. It is best to take it off when playing ball games or hitting things with your hands, unless you are sponsored by the brand like the person below.
4. Watches are also susceptible to water ingress. Therefore, it is best to take off your watch when doing laundry, washing your hands, or performing other tasks involving water. If mist or water droplets appear on the watch glass, it should be serviced promptly to wipe away the moisture and dry the movement. If you find mist or condensation on the crystal, pull the crown outwards, place the glass face down for a day, and then push the crown back to its original position to resolve the issue (this occurrence does not mean the watch's water resistance has deteriorated; the crown may have been inadvertently pulled out from its original position during use).
5. Please keep the watch away from magnetic objects such as radios and televisions to avoid affecting its accuracy.
