      1959, Pan American World Airways launched the first direct transcontinental flight connecting New York and Moscow, with the flight crew wearing Rolex Oyster Perpetual GMT-Master watches.       At the 2013 Baselworld, Rolex proudly launched the new 904L stainless steel Oyster Perpetual GMT-Master II, featuring a rotatable bezel with a blue and black dual-colour Cerachrom ceramic insert for the first time, where blue represents daylight and black represents night.

      The new Cerachrom ceramic insert is a major technical and aesthetic achievement by Rolex, utilising proprietary technology developed by the brand to create a single-piece insert combining two distinct ceramic colours. This design echoes the traditional dual-colour bezels of the very first GMT-Master and GMT-Master II models. Introduced in 2005, the Cerachrom insert offers exceptional scratch and corrosion resistance, and its colour remains unaffected by ultraviolet radiation. Its surface is diamond-polished, giving it an outstanding lustre. A thin layer of platinum is recessed into the 24-hour graduated numerals via the PVD (Physical Vapour Deposition) coating process developed by Rolex.  

Oyster Case: A Symbol of Water Resistance and Robustness

      The Oyster case of the GMT-Master II has a diameter of 40 mm and is water-resistant to a depth of 100 metres (330 feet), serving as a paradigm of robustness, elegance and perfect proportions. The distinctive middle case is crafted from a solid block of highly corrosion-resistant 904L stainless steel. The fluted case back is screwed down by Rolex watchmakers using special proprietary tools, hermetically sealing the case. The winding crown features a patented Triplock triple waterproofness system, securely screwed down against the case and protected by an integrated crown guard. The crystal is made of scratch-resistant sapphire and is fitted with a Cyclops lens at the 3 o'clock position for easy reading of the date. The hermetically sealed Oyster case provides optimal protection for the high-precision movement of the GMT-Master II.  

3186 movement, Superlative Chronometer

      The GMT-Master II is equipped with the calibre 3186, a self-winding mechanical movement entirely developed and manufactured by Rolex, featuring a date display and a second time zone function. Like all Rolex perpetual movements, the 3186 movement is certified as a Swiss Official Chronometer, a designation awarded to precision watches that have successfully passed Swiss Chronometer Testing Centre (COSC) tests. The exquisite design and high-quality manufacturing process of this movement ensure unparalleled precision and reliability. At the heart of the watch, the — — oscillator features a patented blue Parachrom hairspring crafted by Rolex from an exclusive alloy. This hairspring is impervious to magnetic fields, remains remarkably stable when exposed to temperature variations, and is up to 10 times more resistant to shocks than traditional hairsprings.

Solid-link safety clasp bracelet

      The new GMT-Master II is fitted with a 904L stainless steel solid-link Oyster bracelet featuring an Oysterlock safety clasp, which prevents accidental opening, and an ingenious Rolex-patented Easylink rapid extension system that allows the bracelet to be easily lengthened by approximately 5 mm, ensuring enhanced comfort in all circumstances.
