Are you adjusting your watch time correctly?
When should you avoid adjusting the date on a watch?
How to adjust the date on a watch?
1, precisemechanical watchinternal components are quite fragile compared to the force of human hands, so if you are adjusting it for the first time or are not very experienced, it is essential to read the brand's instruction manual carefully. If you encounter unexpected resistance, do not force it, as this may indicate an operational error. Gentle movements can prevent unnecessary damage.
2When wearing or storing the watch, the crown should be in the normal position; screw-down crowns must be tightened to ensure water resistance and prevent dust ingress. The first position is for winding, the second position is for quick-setting the date, and the third position is for adjusting the time.
3Set the date to the day before the current date; for example, if today is30set the calendar to the29then adjust the time by moving the minute hand forward until the calendar automatically changes to the30indicating that it is currently30midnight. Then, adjust the time to the current time. This method avoids the date changing at noon later on. Note that if the current time is in the afternoon or evening, you will need to pass12o'clock once more.
4To prevent damage, always adjust the hands in a clockwise direction.
5For manually wound watches, take care not to overwind to avoid snapping the mainspring. Automatic movements feature a mechanism to prevent overwinding, so this is not an issue; if the watch has run down, winding20-Fturns is sufficient to ensure normal operation.
Mechanical watch running fast and date adjustment methods
1Mechanical watch accuracy
The permissible error range for a mechanical watch is±30seconds/per day, while the average error range for a COSC-certified movement is-4seconds/between+6seconds/and seconds per day. The specific error depends on the movement used in the watch; it is not a principle that higher prices equate to smaller errors.Automatic mechanical watchThe power source is generated by the movement of the wearer's wrist to wind the mainspring. A fully wound automatic mechanical watch can run for36about hours: if worn normally every day, it can operate for15about hours. If it is not worn for longer than this or if there is insufficient movement (the wearer is not active enough), the watch will stop. You should fully wind the watch before wearing it again.
2Why do mechanical watches stop?
First, let us explain what a fully automatic mechanical watch is. It operates via an automatic winding mechanism where the rotor turns in any direction to tighten the mainspring (visible through the transparent case back). Naturally, the watch must be worn on the wrist so that as the arm moves, the rotor turns to generate energy. Generally, a fully automatic watch should be worn on the wrist for8more than hours to replenish the mainspring's energy, though this is not absolute. It is recommended to wear the watch even on holidays; only by keeping it on the wrist to continuously replenish the mainspring will the watch not stop. Nowadays, it is common for office workers to find their watches stopping frequently. Beyond movement issues, this is often because the wearer is not active enough to provide sufficient energy to the mainspring. If this is the case, you can use manual winding to compensate.
3Should I manually wind an automatic watch?
An automatic watch is a standard manual-winding watch with an additional automatic module, which includes a rotor and automatic wheels. The automatic watches we sell are generally in a stopped state when they leave the cabinet. First, the salesperson must help the customer fully wind the mainspring. Afterwards, as long as the customer wears it for a sufficient amount of time each day, the rotor will continuously replenish the mainspring, allowing the watch to keep time normally. We advise against manual winding of automatic watches whenever possible, as manual winding requires the crown to drive many automatic wheels, which can easily wear out the automatic components and increase unnecessary maintenance costs for the customer.
