Common Misconceptions About Replica Watches (I): Daily Water Resistance
Today's watches generally feature daily water resistance; depths of 30 metres, 50 metres, or 100 metres are common in replica watch products. However, even with excellent water resistance, there is no guarantee against every eventuality, as water vapour in the air is omnipresent. Furthermore, even standard diving watches only refer to water resistance under normal temperature conditions. Generally speaking, a 30-metre water-resistant watch is designed to protect against dust and moisture but should not be submerged in water; a 50-metre water-resistant watch can be worn while washing your face; and watches with a rating of 100 metres or 300 metres are suitable for swimming, for examplereplica Rolex Submariner, so you don't need to worry about water ingress, but remember never to adjust the watch while underwater.

Misconception: Many people believe that because their watch is water-resistant, they do not need to remove it when bathing or similar activities, such as wearing the watch in a hot shower or sauna. In reality, this is completely incorrect because a watch is not an absolutely hermetically sealed case; in other words, water resistance does not necessarily mean resistance to water vapour.
Due to thermal expansion and contraction, some components of the watch will expand to varying degrees under hot conditions, causing the gaps between parts to widen, which affects the watch's normal service life. Additionally, at high temperatures, the lubricant will rapidly diffuse and dissipate, oxidise, and deteriorate, thereby losing its lubricating properties. Sudden temperature changes, such as exposure to ice water, can easily cause condensation and fogging inside the watch. Simultaneously, the rubber water-resistant gaskets are prone to accelerated ageing due to thermal expansion and contraction, compromising the watch's water resistance.
Countermeasures: Situations involving water ingress vary. Ordinary tap water is relatively easy to handle, but seawater or beverages can be corrosive to the watch. Therefore, the priority when water enters is to send the watch to a repair shop for drying as soon as possible; if the water ingress is severe, a full service and cleaning of the movement are required. Do not leave it unattended; if not repaired in time, water will cause the steel parts within the movement to rust.
If water has entered the case, you can place the watch in a sealed container with granular silica gel. After a few hours, remove the watch, and the moisture will have been absorbed and disappeared. This method is simple, economical, and causes no damage to the watch's precision or longevity.
