The difference between real gold and PVD gold plating in replica watches
First, let us explain what PVD is. PVD is essentially a coating technique. To put it simply, if I make a batch of tools and want to make them harder and more wear-resistant, I can PVD a layer of chromium onto the tools, which will make them brighter and stronger. Of course, this is not a process exclusively for precious metals. In short, if I want to obtain a gold watch at a low cost, the PVD process becomes a colouring technique, simply printing the colour of gold onto the original stainless steel; that is it in simple terms.

True precious metal watches use real 18CT gold, changing its colour by mixing in different proportions of silver, copper, platinum, or palladium. When forging the precious metal components of the watch, they are already forged to the standard of precious metals. It is not a case of electroplating a layer of colour onto stainless steel afterwards.
So, what is the difference between the two? Firstly, the material is different; real gold is relatively soft, while PVD is relatively hard. You can leave marks on real gold with your fingernail, whereas PVD is sturdy and durable, and will not show marks during daily wear. Of course, there are also very well-made PVD versionsgold Rolex watchesthat will not fade even after three to five years of wear; after all, it is a replica watch, and the price reflects that.
