What are the functions of a chronograph watch?
A chronograph watch is a timepiece with multiple functions, popular for its sophisticated appearance. Some people are unsure of what these functions are, so let's explore them.

Introduction to chronograph watch functions
A chronograph watch features three sub-dials on the main dial and can be used as a stopwatch. The hand pointing to the 10 o'clock position is the hour hand, and the one pointing to the 2 o'clock position is the minute hand, just like on other watches. The red-tipped hand pointing to the 12 o'clock position is the chronograph seconds hand; it remains stationary until the chronograph mechanism is activated by pressing the button at the 2 o'clock position.
The sub-dial at the 12 o'clock position tracks 30-minute intervals; each full rotation of the central chronograph seconds hand advances this hand by one small increment, representing 1 minutes. The sub-dial at the 6 o'clock position tracks 12-hour intervals; each full rotation of the 12 o'clock hand advances this hand by one small increment, representing 0.5 hours. When the chronograph button at the 2 o'clock position is pressed again, all three hands (chronograph seconds, 30-minute totaliser, and 12-hour totaliser) will stop.
When the button at the 4 o'clock position is pressed, the three hands (chronograph seconds, 30-minute totaliser, and 12-hour totaliser) will reset to zero. The sub-dial at the 9 o'clock position is the constant seconds hand, which operates independently of the chronograph mechanism; it runs continuously, with each full rotation representing 1 minutes (this is known as a small seconds hand, distinct from the central seconds hand). The crown at the 3 o'clock position functions like that of a standard watch, used for winding and adjusting the time and date.
Maintenance tips for watch functions
Water resistance: Generally, watches have water-resistant functions, but if used improperly, the watch glass easily develops water vapour, becoming hazy and unclear. In cases of severe water ingress, moisture seeps into the movement, which easily rusts and damages the movement, shortening the watch's lifespan. Therefore, experts suggest that when water enters a watch, you should not merely take the simplest approach of air-drying it; you should also have the watch cleaned, lubricated, and serviced to protect the movement from damage.
Shock resistance: A watch is a very precise instrument, and a tiny space of no more than a few centimetres can contain hundreds of parts. Damage, loosening, or displacement of any of these components can cause inaccurate timekeeping or even stoppage. The impact on the appearance is the detachment of five elements: markers, hands, pins, gems, and the crystal.
Magnetic resistance: Avoid approaching magnetic fields, such as placing the watch near electrical appliances that generate magnetic fields (like speakers, refrigerators, computers, etc.) or magnetic objects (like magnets, mobile phones). In addition, women's handbag snap buttons and men's mobile phone case magnetic closures may magnetise the watch, causing inaccurate timekeeping or temporary stoppage.
