What is the watch QF certification?
The QF certification stands for Qualité Fleurier. In 2004, initiated by Mr Michel Parmigiani, the Parmigiani manufacture, the Vaucher Manufacture Fleurier movement factory, Chopard, and Bovet jointly established the "Fleurier Quality Foundation" and introduced the QF certification.
Watch QF certification standards
1. Accuracy. To obtain the QF certification for any watch model, its movement must first be certified by the COSC chronometer authority (ISO 3159 standard).
2. Durability. The watch model must pass the "Chronofiable" test, which includes cyclical pusher operation tests, anti-magnetic tests, shock tests (excluding complicated models), and water resistance tests. The number of watches tested is submitted proportionally based on production volume. If the production of the model is within 1 to 100 pieces, 5 pieces must be submitted for testing; for 101 to 200 pieces, 10 pieces must be submitted; and for over 201 pieces, 20 pieces must be submitted.
3. Real-wear accuracy. Unlike COSC, the finished watch must be placed on the "Fleuritest" simulator for a 24-hour cycle of motion testing, with the data recorded by computer; on the constantly moving simulator, the watch must maintain a daily rate deviation within 0 to +5 seconds.
4. Technical and aesthetic requirements. Similar to the Geneva Seal, there are specific regulations regarding movement decoration, finishing, and materials, such as the prohibition of plastic components, and the requirement that all parts must be bevelled; assembly must be done by hand or mechanically, not in bulk; nickel plating is prohibited unless used on stainless steel for anti-oxidation purposes, etc.
In 2012, a brand new regulation was added to the original four criteria: 100% manufactured in Switzerland; this requirement applies only to the watch head, excluding the strap and buckle. Although the source of any materials within the watch head can come from anywhere, the processing of the materials must be carried out locally in Switzerland; assembly and fine finishing must, of course, also be completed in Switzerland. Furthermore, if certain processes cannot be completed in Switzerland and must be handled elsewhere, the Fleurier Quality Foundation must be notified in advance.
