How to identify a genuine Glashütte watch?
In recent years, the number of replica Glashütte watches has increased. How can we identify the authenticity of a Glashütte watch when purchasing? Here are a few methods to help you distinguish between genuine and replica Glashütte timepieces.

Methods for identifying a genuine Glashütte
1. Observe the subtle details of the Glashütte watch exterior
Observe the dial of the Glashütte watch. Some replica watches with day and date displays exhibit these characteristics: the outer edge of the calendar disc appears tilted backwards when viewed through the date window, or the calendar disc is made of plastic; the day disc may display the day in Chinese, or use English on the right and numbers on the left.
Some replica Glashütte watches may have 'SWISS MOVT' printed on the dial to indicate a Swiss movement, or 'SHOCKPROOF' to denote shock resistance. However, these watches typically feature numerous defects and flaws on the dial, such as misaligned indices, blurred minute markers, poorly fitted logos or lettering, as well as scratches, discolouration, or missing luminescence. Furthermore, the luminous dots are often applied to the inside of the indices, appearing large and uneven, or the colour of the luminescence on the dial may not match that on the hands.
2. Observe the Glashütte watch movement
Watches manufactured by Glashütte Original possess the following key features: the signature Glashütte stripe finish on the 3/4 bridge, various electroplated surfaces, polished stainless steel components, screw-mounted gold chatons, blued steel screws, bevelled edges, hand-engraved decorations, and a single or double swan-neck fine adjustment mechanism. Do not forget that the movement is the most exquisite and complex component of a high-end watch.
The complex production process requires up to 300 working hours. Each step demands complete mastery of the materials, and only a movement produced in this manner represents true luxury.
3. Observe the Glashütte watch case back
Observe the case back of the Glashütte watch. All original Glashütte watches, especially men's models, feature various inscriptions on the case back, including the brand name, country of origin (SWISS MADE), water resistance (WATER RESISTANT), anti-magnetic properties (ANTIMAGNETIC), and details regarding shock resistance.
The patterns and lettering engraved on the case backs of replica Glashütte watches are often very coarse and blurred, lacking clear case numbers or movement serial numbers. Original Glashütte watches typically have a protective film on the case back. Swiss-made gold-plated watches feature engravings at the lug position (opposite the spring bar used for the strap), such as PLAQUEGI0, indicating that the case is 10 microns gold-plated. Replica watches lack these markings, and many use processes like titanium nitride plating to imitate a gold-plated case.
