How to tell if a Rado watch is genuine?
Rado watches have won the affection of many with their fluid lines and elegant designs. However, precisely for this reason, Rado timepieces are also among the most frequently counterfeited. Below, I will share with you some methods for distinguishing a genuine Rado watch from a fake.
Distinguishing Rado Counterfeits: The Movement
1, genuine Rado watch model numbers follow a one-model-per-number rule; even for men's and women's matching pair watches, the numbers differ. Counterfeit Rado watches use the same number for both men's and women's models, such as 120.0281.3N.
2, counterfeit Rado watches use cheap movements, commonly Ronda movements, whereas genuine Rado watches exclusively use high-quality gold-plated ETA movements.
3, upon careful inspection, even the watch packaging box, manual, and hangtag differ in design, print quality, and colour. A Rado watch includes one warranty card, which features three numbers: the serial number, batch number, and model number. These numbers also appear on the sticker on the back of the warranty card leather sleeve. If the watch contains gemstones, these numbers will also appear on the diamond certificate card. If the watch is a limited edition, these numbers will also appear on the limited edition reference card. If the watch is chronometer-certified, these numbers will also appear on the chronometer certificate card. Fake watches lack complete documentation and corresponding full information.
Distinguishing Rado Counterfeits: Exterior
1, on genuine Rado watches, the four case-back screws all feature single-slot straight grooves, whereas counterfeit watches have cross-head (Phillips) screws.
2, the engraving on the case back is blurry, and the RADO lettering on the clasp is also very indistinct. Stamping processes are typically not used, resulting in markings that are shallow and lack any raised relief effect.
3, genuine Rado watches are crafted from stainless steel combined with high-tech ceramic, while the case backs of fake watches may be gold-plated. Furthermore, the case tends to be overly thick. The ceramic on counterfeit watches has a uniform colour and a dark, dull grey tone.
4, the dial of a counterfeit watch has SWISS MOVT or SWISS MADE printed below the 6 o'clock position, whereas genuine Rado watches only print SWISS and a three-digit number representing the dial model, such as 015 or 071, etc.
5, genuine Rado watches are engraved with a unique production serial number (8 digits) that is never repeated, whereas counterfeit watches feature only a single, identical number with as many as 13 digits, such as 1372811523769.
6, the bracelet clasp of a counterfeit Rado watch lacks a strap reference number, whereas genuine Rado watches all have numbers engraved, such as common black ceramic Rado models featuring 04140 04142, etc. Additionally, the bracelet clasp itself differs.
7、The dial features the Jubilé Rado inscription, and four natural diamonds are set on the dial, whereas replicas feature synthetic diamonds.
8、Check the factory label on the case back; famous watches usually feature the brand logo and model number on the label. Some watch case back labels also feature laser anti-counterfeit holograms.
