How to authenticate a GUCCI watch?
How to tell if a Gucci watch is genuine? Let us take a look below.
Methods for identifying genuine and replica Gucci watches
1. Dial.
All Japanese-made watches have a row of very small numbers printed at the bottom of the dial near the 6 o'clock marker, indicating the movement and dial number; replica watches do not have this. Certain prestigious Swiss watch brands, such as Hermès, Titoni and Enicar, feature special markings on their dial. Titoni men's watches of the Airmaster type have the red letters TITOFLEX printed on the lower part of the dial, and the vast majority are also set with a glass or metal diamond. Enicar watches have the letters sTARJEWEIS printed on the lower part of the dial. Replica watches do not have such letters.
Although some replica watches have the letters sWISSMOVT printed on the dial to indicate a Swiss movement, and markings such as SHOCKPROOF to indicate an antimagnetic or shock-resistant watch, these timepieces typically exhibit more flaws and blemishes on the dial. Examples include improperly set dial characters, blurred minute tracks, poorly aligned lettering, trademarks or patterns on the dial, numerous scratches, discoloration, and detached luminous dots. Furthermore, luminous dots are usually applied to the inner side of the dial characters, appearing larger and uneven, and sometimes the colour of the luminous dots on the dial does not match those on the hands.
2. Inspect the case back.
All genuine watches, especially men's models, have numerous English letters stamped on the case back, indicating the brand name, country of manufacture, all-steel or half-steel construction, water resistance, antimagnetic properties, shock resistance, or the name of the shock absorber (refer to the common watch exterior English letter markings below), along with the trademark pattern specific to the brand. In addition, several numbers are engraved to indicate the movement number and case number of the watch. The patterns and letters engraved on the back of replica watches are mostly very coarse and blurred, with unclear case and movement numbers. Genuine watches generally have a protective film attached to the case back, while Titoni watches have a green plum blossom-shaped label affixed to the back. Swiss-made gold-plated case watches have letters engraved between the lugs (opposite the spring bars used to attach the strap), such as PLAQUEGI0, indicating that the case is 10 microns gold-plated. Replica watches lack such markings, and many replica watches use processes like titanium nitride to imitate gold-plated cases.
3. Inspect the crown.
Replica watches have trademarks or letter markings that are coarse and blurred, or printed with 100%W–P, and all-steel watches use half-steel crowns.
