Audemars Piguet Brand Story
Audemars Piguet, one of the world's three most renowned watchmaking brands. Founded in 1875 in the village of Le Brassus in the Swiss Vallée de Joux, it is an independent family business and one of the most famous watch manufactures in the world. Audemars Piguet preserves and promotes traditional Swiss watchmaking excellence, always adhering to the brand philosophy of "To break the rules, you must first master them". Every Audemars Piguet creation encapsulates the brand's centuries of exquisite craftsmanship, and it is thanks to the unremitting dedication of master artisans that the brand's extraordinary masterpieces are brought to life. The flow of time is captured in miniature and elevated to excellence in the hands of Audemars Piguet.

In 1875, two talented young master watchmakers, Jules-Louis Audemars and Edward-Auguste Piguet, decided to join forces in the Swiss watchmaking haven of the Vallée de Joux to develop their precision watchmaking business, formally establishing the Audemars Piguet watch manufacture; and on 17 12 1881, the company "Audemars Piguet & Cie" was founded in Le Brassus.
AP is formed by taking the initial letters of the founders' surnames, "A" and "P". The two founders trained as professional finishers in the Vallée de Joux and dedicated themselves to developing and producing the most delicate components of timepieces. At the inception of the manufacture, the visionary founders decided to cease acting as component suppliers to other watchmakers, pioneering the production of complete timepieces and creating their first pocket watch equipped with a perpetual calendar mechanism in 1882. Driven by an exceptional entrepreneurial spirit, they began focusing on the development of complicated watch models and undertook a series of strategic marketing campaigns, establishing Audemars Piguet as the brand with the most records for complicated watch inventions in the world today.
The enduring legacy of Audemars Piguet within prestigious Swiss watchmaking tradition is entirely due to the enduring commitment of the two founding families and the loyalty of subsequent generations of master watchmakers. Since 1882, members of the Audemars and Piguet families have held key positions within the company, with the Audemars and Piguet branches managing two distinct areas of the business respectively; Audemars oversees the technical side, while Piguet is more involved in commercial activities. This joint management approach has been maintained by family members down through the years.
In 1917, Jules-Louis Audemars retired and was succeeded by his son Paul-Louis Audemars as Chairman of the Board and Technical Director. In 1919, Paul-Edward Piguet also followed in his father's footsteps, taking charge of the company's commercial department, and in 1962, his two daughters began working at the company. Subsequently, Jacques-Louis Audemars served as Chairman of the Board until 1992. Audemars Piguet remains under family stewardship, with Jasmine Audemars, daughter of Jacques-Louis, holding the position of Chairman of the Board.
With a history spanning over 130 years, Audemars Piguet has achieved remarkable success under the leadership of the fourth generation of the founding Audemars and Piguet families. Exquisite watchmaking technology and luxurious, elegant designs have made Audemars Piguet highly revered by watch collectors, establishing it as one of the world's top three prestige watch brands. Today, Audemars Piguet watch manufactures are located in Le Brassus, Le Locle and Geneva, with a total of 430 artisans and watchmakers.

Audemars Piguet's independent spirit, which refuses to follow the crowd, was most vividly displayed in 1972. The Royal Oak collection, released that year, broke the established conventions of the watch industry, casting off the rigid watchmaking norms of the time, much like Rolex and Bvlgari. After more than forty years of leading the way, Audemars Piguet's commitment remains unchanged, and the Royal Oak collection continues to create new legends.
