What are the methods for identifying German watches?
German watches are also sold on the Chinese market, and many counterfeit German watch products have emerged accordingly. So, what are the methods for distinguishing genuine German watches from fake ones? Below, we teach you the simplest methods to verify the authenticity of German watches, helping you learn to spot fakes and avoid the regret of purchasing a counterfeit.

Method One for Identifying German Watches: Check the Appearance
The exterior of a German watch can be checked from aspects such as the case, crystal, dial, and hour, minute and second hands. The case should be free from pinholes and obvious scratches, with symmetrical edges and corners; the screwing-in joint between the case back and the upper case should be tight; the distances from the two strap lugs to the case should be equal, the holes for installing the spring bars should be centred at the ends of the case lugs without bias, and the depth of the holes should be appropriate so that the strap loops do not easily fall off; the crystal should be free from flaws and scratches, transparent and bright; the three hands should be installed correctly, and there should be a correct safety clearance between the hands themselves, and between the crystal and the dial; the plating on the dial and hands should have a good finish without blemishes, and the dial scale lines or luminous dots should be intact; there should be a clearance of approximately 0.1-0.3mm between the crown and the case.
Method Two for Identifying German Watches: Check the Number Markings
Examine all numerical engravings on the case back. Markings on counterfeit watches are often inconsistent and fail to match the digit count of authentic models. Genuine watches carry a unique individual serial number.
Method Three for Identifying German Watches: Identification of the Movement
Looking at the movement, the bridge or oscillating weight inside a genuine movement is marked with the corresponding trademark lettering; the movement is firmly secured within the case assembly; and the interior of the movement is clean. Counterfeit German watch movements lack trademark lettering on the bridge or oscillating weight, or the trademark lettering is rough, blurry, crooked, or simply pasted on with a small copper piece; the interior of the movement is unclean, with some movements containing copper shavings, hairs, fingerprints, and the like.
Method Four for Identifying German Watches: Check the Traditional Manufacturing Techniques
German watches adopt traditional techniques, such as the design of the screws, the finishing and engraving of the case back, and special markings used by certain watch manufactories for their own timepieces.
Precautions for Daily Maintenance and Use
1. Do not use the watch in hot baths, saunas, or environments with significant temperature fluctuations (including water-resistant watches).
2. Do not operate the watch buttons or adjust the crown while underwater.
3. Please clean the bracelet and case regularly; for leather straps, avoid contact with water, moisture, and cosmetics, and keep them out of direct sunlight.
4. Please keep the watch away from magnetic fields; avoid prolonged proximity to electrical appliances, mobile phones, and magnets.
5. Do not disassemble the watch under any circumstances.
The above are simple methods for distinguishing genuine and fake German watches. Of course, there are other testing methods, such as using testing instruments to check the gold content, timekeeping accuracy, water resistance, glass hardness, and genuine or fake diamonds, verifying through measured data whether they match the data and descriptions marked on imported watches, in order to determine authenticity.
