"A vodka martini, shaken not stirred." James Bond would make the exact same request to the bartender every time, even as an agent with a licence to kill. In the 007 film series, Bond maintains an elegant British gentleman's demeanour. Moreover, whether in high-end social settings or critical combat situations, Bond could always rely on a reliable Omega watch to help him out of trouble, making the timepiece an indispensable partner for him.

Let us take you through the classic watch models that have appeared on 007 wrists and the special functions they possessed.

  Rolex Oyster Perpetual Submariner Watch

The first watch to appear on James Bond's wrist was the famous Rolex Oyster Perpetual Submariner series, known today as the highly sought-after "Submariner". It is said that the Submariner worn by Sean Connery, the first 007 actor in the film, actually belonged to the director. Throughout Sean Connery's 6 007 films, he spent most of his time wearing this Rolex Submariner with its strap modified to nylon, which is a testament to the approval this watch gained in the heart of this most classic 007 portrayal. It is worth noting that during Sean Connery's era, his watch actually had no special functions, until the first 007 film starring Roger Moore, the third 007 actor, Live and Let Die, where his Rolex Submariner Ref.5513 was turned into a 007 gadget for the very first time—the case could turn into a super magnet, and the fluted bezel could rotate at high speed to become a mini electric saw.

  Seiko watch

Perhaps due to increased product placement, from the 1977 film The Spy Who Loved Me to the 1985 film A View to a Kill, Bond no longer wore the classic Submariner series, choosing instead watches produced by the Japanese watch brand Seiko. As the film plots gradually became more fantastical, the functions of Bond's watch also grew increasingly complex, repeatedly appearing as vital gadgets that helped Bond turn the tables at critical moments. In The Spy Who Loved Me, his Seiko Quartz LCD Chronograph could print received messages onto a strip of paper; in Moonraker, Bond's Seiko Explosive could be used as a small charge to help Bond blast open a ventilation shaft and make a clean getaway; in For Your Eyes Only and Octopussy, Bond's watch appeared even more high-tech, serving as a two-way radio and anti-wiretapping device in the former, and directly transforming into a micro-computer capable of recording video in the latter plot.

With a gap of 6 years since the previous instalment Licence to Kill, 1995's GoldenEye introduced Pierce Brosnan as the most prestigious 007 and officially marked the beginning of the collaboration between 007 and Omega. In the hands of Pierce Brosnan, the Omega Seamaster Professional worn on his wrist was exceptionally capable, able to perform laser cutting, detonate explosives, and even fire a grappling hook to pull the owner out of danger. After Pierce Brosnan, the role of 007 was played by Daniel Craig, who seemed to favour the Omega Seamaster Planet Ocean series. Although the special features of the watch in the films did not see major breakthroughs, starting from Pierce Brosnan, the watch as a functional gimmick was greatly downplayed, while its role in shaping the personal image of 007 was enhanced. We can observe that Pierce Brosnan's Seamaster watches were almost exclusively deep blue dials, whereas Daniel Craig's Planet Ocean series featured predominantly rugged black dial models, which corresponded to the distinct screen styles of the old and new 007—Pierce Brosnan's elegant chivalry versus Daniel Craig's stern, tough-guy demeanour.
