A visit to Omega's timekeeping equipment: bobsleigh
Although the Rio Olympics 2016 concluded not long ago, Omega's timekeeping team, as an Olympic partner, is already preparing for the upcoming 2018 Winter Olympics.
The bobsleigh events will be held at the Alpensia Sliding Centre. To precisely determine the allocation of medals, Omega's timekeeping team will employ a range of advanced timekeeping technologies to ensure that the results of every race are accurate and flawless.

In speed events, a tenth, a hundredth or even a thousandth of a second can often become the decisive factor. In the case of bobsleigh, a tenth-of-a-second lead at the start can eventually turn into a significant advantage of three-tenths of a second at the finish line.

Laser photoelectric cells
In Pyeongchang, Omega's timekeeping team has positioned multiple pairs of laser photoelectric cells along the track to measure and record the start time, intermediate split times, completion time, and the maximum speed of each competitor as they accelerate across the finish line.

Omega Quantum Timer
The Omega Quantum Timer made its debut at the London 2012 Olympic Games, with its resolution enhanced to 1 microseconds (one-millionth of a second), marking the advent of a new generation of Omega timekeeping equipment. Compared with previous equipment, the resolution of the Quantum Timer has been increased by 100 times. Furthermore, its accuracy has reached one in ten million. This means that the maximum error of this timer is only one ten-millionth of a second; in other words, it could potentially produce an error of just 1 second(s) at most every 116 days.

Omega Speedscope
The newly developed Omega Speedscope will be mounted on the forerunner bobsleigh for its debut, a technology that allows television viewers to obtain vital data during the race in real time. This innovative device consists of a speed sensor, a 3D acceleration sensor, and a 3D gyroscope sensor, all three of which can acquire real-time data.

Omega and bobsleigh
In addition to serving as the official timekeeper of the Winter Olympics, Omega has, since 2002, provided precise and reliable timekeeping and results services for events organised by the International Bobsleigh and Skeleton Federation (IBSF), the governing body for sliding sports. Moreover, Omega has actively promoted the development of the new sport of monobob.
As the official timekeeper of the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics,Omegait is an honour to cooperate with the International Olympic Committee, international sports federations, and athletes to ensure that the timekeeping technology utilised in the Pyeongchang 2018 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games helps highlight the Olympic spirit and captures every decisive, brilliant moment.
