Appreciation of Omega's launch of the world's first true anti-magnetic movement
On 1 17, 2013, local time,OmegaAt a press conference held at the Cité du Temps in Geneva, Switzerland, it was announced that a new movement had been developed capable of resisting strong magnetic fields greater than 1.5 Tesla (15, 000 gauss). Its anti-magnetic performance far surpasses that of any previous timepiece, finally solving the anti-magnetic problem that has troubled the watchmaking industry for centuries. Let us now take a closer look at the elegance of Omega's truly anti-magnetic movement.
Introduction to Omega's launch of the world's first truly anti-magnetic movement
At the press conference, Raynald Aeschlimann, Vice President of Omega and member of the Swatch Group Extended Management Board, formally introduced this innovative achievement to the media in attendance. Jean-Claude Monachon, Vice President of Omega and Head of Product Development; Michel Willemin, CEO of Swatch Group Research Laboratory ASULAB; Thierry Conus, Director of ETA Research and Development; and Mathieu Oulevey, Tribology and Materials Engineer at ETA, attended the press conference.
Mr Aeschlimann stated at the press conference that the Swatch Group pooled its resources, bringing together top engineers and researchers from the brand and its constituent companies to allow everyone to play to their strengths and jointly achieve this remarkable and brilliant result. He said: "All the main protagonists of this innovation are gathered here today—including not only our colleagues from Omega, but also our partners from ASULAB and ETA. Their creativity and passion are entirely responsible for us being able to present such an important research and development achievement here today."
The development team used innovative anti-magnetic technology to build the first prototype movement, fitting it into an Omega Seamaster Aqua Terra watch. Unlike previous anti-magnetic methods in watchmaking which involved placing a soft-iron inner case inside the watch to shield it, this innovative Omega movement is crafted from selected non-ferrous metallic materials chosen by the brand, thereby fundamentally protecting it from the influence of magnetic fields. Several patents are currently pending for this new movement.
Mr Monachon introduced the media to Omega's long tradition of technological innovation, showcasing many of the brand's key milestones from 1894 to the present day. Furthermore, he pointed out that magnetism has always been a tricky problem for watchmakers, and that there are more magnets present in modern everyday life than ever before. Watchmakers have frequently had to deal with watches becoming magnetized, as a timepiece's performance is compromised when exposed to magnetic fields and must be demagnetized; this problem will now be completely resolved with the advent of this movement.
Mr Monachon stated that Nicolas G. Hayek, President of the Swatch Group, had given Omega a daunting task: to develop a completely non-magnetic movement. Today, Omega, alongside engineers, scientists, and metallurgists from its sister companies, has successfully completed this high-difficulty challenge.
Mr Michel Willemin focused on the issue of magnetism in daily life, giving the media a brief introduction to magnets and magnetic force. He pointed out that with the development of the times, the magnetic force of permanent magnets in daily life is growing increasingly stronger, which was one of the main reasons why Omega developed this anti-magnetic movement.
Thierry Conus discussed previous methods used by the watchmaking industry to deal with magnetism, including designing anti-magnetic inner cases to reduce the influence of magnetic fields. He pointed out that these methods had major limitations, as they were not only unable to cope with the enhanced magnetic force of permanent magnets, but also prevented enthusiasts from admiring the aesthetic beauty of the movement in operation. Subsequently, he played a short film showing how a standard mechanical movement would stop running immediately when exposed to a strong magnetic field, severely affecting its accuracy. In contrast, the performance of this Omega prototype movement was breathtaking; even when placed in an even stronger magnetic field (15, 000 gauss), it continued to run normally. Test results showed that after being exposed to ultra-strong magnetic fields, the watch's precision was completely unaffected, performing just as brilliantly as before.
Omega then conducted a live demonstration, with the convincing results powerfully proving that this innovative anti-magnetic Omega movement has set a brand-new milestone for the global watchmaking industry.
Having said that, I would like to recommend a popular Omega watch model; those interested can add me on WeChat for further enquiries.
Omega De Ville series men's mechanical watch 431.33.41.21.03.001
Review:
◆ Featuring a rare blue dial that reflects varying depths of blue under different lighting conditions, creating a rich and nuanced look, which is why this watch is also known as the 'Blue Aqua'.
◆ Combined with a sunburst dial pattern and the De Ville series' signature omega-shaped guilloché motif, the entire dial offers dynamic play of light and shadow.
◆ The watch is equipped with a custom-version Omega 8500 movement, ensuring precise timekeeping.
◆ The silver-white rhombus hour markers and hands stand out clearly against the blue dial for excellent legibility.
◆ A water resistance depth of 100 metres also guarantees outstanding water resistance, making it entirely suitable for aquatic use with complete peace of mind.
