  Panerai Strap Removal Method

The section of the strap with the buckle (the shorter section) should always be at the top of the watch (when viewing the watch upright with the crown on the right). Unlike a human belt, the installation orientation of a watch strap is regulated.

Metal bracelets. When the watch is laid flat, the letters or logos on the bracelet clasp should align with the dial. If they are upside down, the bracelet is installed backward. You should be able to open the clasp with your thumb for it to be correct; for a butterfly clasp, you can only check whether the logo is oriented the same way as the dial. If the bracelet is backward, opening and closing it will definitely feel awkward.

, for straps or bracelets with a clasp, the sides will feature numerous holes used for adjusting the length. When shortening the strap or bracelet, ensure you do not adjust the clasp adjustment mechanism (tightening or releasing) towards the side of the clasp closing axis. Doing so creates leverage on the clasp, making it very easy for the strap or bracelet to open unexpectedly and potentially resulting in a lost watch.

, when removing links from a metal bracelet, it is best to remove them in even numbers and evenly from both sides of the clasp. This ensures the clasp remains centred for a comfortable fit. This is particularly important for women with slender wrists when removing bracelet links.

, hollow bracelet links are typically connected using so-called hairpins, which are prone to loosening and sliding out. Solid bracelets generally use pins or screw pins to connect the links, which may also loosen over time, making regular checks essential. You can use a pin-like tool to push outwards firmly; if the pin emerges easily, it is already loose. If you notice any signs of protrusion, seek repairs immediately. Some watches are particularly prone to this issue, so it is recommended to replace the pins in the case every 7-8 years, as they are very inexpensive. When using screw pins, it is best to apply a small amount of threadlocker during installation to ensure security.

, removing bracelet links has a specific direction. Arrows on the bracelet generally indicate the direction in which the pins should be pushed out; this must not be reversed, and the installation direction is the exact opposite of removal.

, leather and rubber straps are prone to wear and tear and need replacing every few years. When replacing them, consider both the size and colour, especially for fashion watches. A white dial paired with a blue strap clearly clashes (it should be white), and even the colour of the buckle on a leather strap should match the case. Harmony creates aesthetic appeal.
