A brief review of the Panerai Radiomir 1940 collection 3-day power reserve GMT new releases
At the 2016 Salon International de la Haute Horlogerie in Geneva,Paneraithe Radiomir 1940 collection unveiled four brand-new watch models, which not only bring Panerai enthusiasts several creative dial options, but also feature multiple complications to suit various needs. Among them, the Radiomir 1940 3 Days GMT Power Reserve Automatic watch (PAM00628 and PAM00658) is equipped with the P.4002 movement, adding even more new functions to the new line. Let us take a closer look at this model PAM00658 watch together.

P.4002 The movement is developed based on the P.4000 automatic mechanical movement, sharing the same key technical characteristics: an off-centre oscillating weight that swings in both directions, working together with two connected spring barrels to ensure a power reserve of up to three days. The movement is also fitted with a special device that allows the balance wheel to be halted when setting the time, ensuring precise synchronisation. It is additionally equipped with a dual-supported balance bridge for greater stability. The new movement also features exceptionally practical new functions: a date display, a GMT dual-time display (with a central hand indicating the second time zone), a 24-hour small seconds subdial (for the first time zone), and a power reserve display.

P.4002 The movement positions the power reserve display at the 5 o'clock position on the dial, and is equipped with two highly practical devices that make adjusting the time more convenient and precise: the first device stops the balance wheel and resets the seconds hand to zero when the crown is pulled out. The second device allows the hour hand to be adjusted independently forward or backward in one-hour increments when setting the local time, without interfering with the minute hand or affecting the watch's operation, and automatically adjusts the date as well.

Each new Radiomir 1940 watch embodies Panerai's characteristic focus on dial legibility, remaining clearly readable in both normal lighting and dim conditions. The classic oversized baton and numeral hour markers are coated with Super-LumiNova ® luminescence. This watch features a vertically brushed patterned dial, with complications such as the date display, small seconds, and power reserve display clearly legible against the black dial. It is paired with a brown untreated leather strap.

The design of the Radiomir 1940 case faithfully reflects the classic models created by Panerai in the 1940 for the Italian Navy commando units, crafted from AISI 316L polished stainless steel with a water resistance of up to 10 bar (approx. 100 metres).
