Brief Review of the Panerai LUMINOR 1950 Tourbillon Ceramic Watch

       Galileo dedicated his life to expanding human knowledge through countless scientific studies, earning numerous accolades from posterity, “Lo Scienziato” being one of them. His scientific discoveries drove the development of mechanical timekeeping, profoundly revolutionising human timekeeping methods. The Florentine brand Panerai's relationship with “Lo Scienziato” is built on more than just timepieces, and it is equally proud of sharing its birthplace in Tuscany, Italy. To this end,Panerailaunches the new Lo Scienziato – Luminor 1950 Tourbillon GMT Ceramica ceramic watch as a tribute to Galileo.

      The new timepiece features sophisticated technology and an exquisite appearance, perfectly showcasing the exquisite watchmaking craftsmanship of the Panerai Neuchâtel Manufacture (â). The watch is crafted using intricate skeletonisation techniques, and through the sapphire crystal window fitted to the case back, the P.2005/S hand-wound movement and its tourbillon escapement developed by the Panerai manufactory are fully revealed. The movement's bridges, mainplate and barrel are all skeletonised to expose the inner details, and most components are specially electroplated in black to blend seamlessly with the tone of the case.

        P.2005/SThe movement's technical and aesthetic design is exquisite: the tourbillon cage axis is perpendicular to the balance wheel, rotating twice a minute to effectively counteract rate variations caused by gravity. The dial features a small seconds dial with beige Super-LumiNova® heavy-duty luminous coating, indicating the tourbillon rotating twice per minute. The movement is assembled from 277 components, features 3 spring barrels, a power reserve of up to 6 days, and the power reserve indicator is located on the back of the movement. P.2005/S The movement is equipped with a second time zone function featuring central hands, a day/night indicator window at the 3 o'clock position, and a quick time-adjustment system that allows the hour hand to be moved in one-hour increments directly to quickly calibrate local time without affecting the movement of the minute hand or the running of the watch.

       P.2005/S The movement is paired for the first time with a 48 mm diameter Luminor 1950 case, made of black zirconium oxide ceramic—an advanced material that is lightweight, resilient and highly corrosion-resistant. The Lo Scienziato – Luminor 1950 Tourbillon GMT Ceramica ceramic watch is water-resistant to 10 bar (approx. 100 metres), continuing Panerai's profound bond with the sea.
