A brief review of the Panerai Luminor Daylight 8-Day Power Reserve Stainless Steel Watch

       PaneraiLooking back at the brand's glorious history to forge ahead, Panerai continues to write fascinating new stories for loyal collectors who are passionate about the brand. The new Luminor 8-day power reserve watch set is limited to 500 sets and includes two timepieces, with designs inspired by models from the 'pre-Vendôme era'. The 'pre-Vendôme era' refers to the period from 1993, when the brand first launched a watch collection aimed at the civilian market, until the brand was acquired in 1997 by the Vendôme Group, a subsidiary of Richemont. During these few years, Panerai produced a limited number of watches, yet they quickly became sought-after treasures among collectors on the market. Among these fine pieces, the watch series specially commissioned from Panerai by American actor Sylvester Stallone in 1996 is the most widely discussed. The new Luminor 8-day power reserve watch set features two original timepieces custom-made by Panerai for Stallone at that time: —the Luminor Black Seal watch and the Luminor Daylight watch.

      The other Luminor 8 days power reserve pair watch is a replica 1996 of the same model from Daylight8Days, with only a handful of original watches in existence, making it extremely rare. The most distinctive feature of this historic timepiece is its white dial — Although it also adopts the white dial of the Daylight models of that era, the hour markers and hands are rendered in a striking blue, and the new replica faithfully recreates these unique details.

These designs were replaced shortly after the delivery of the first batch of prototype watches back then, meaning this original version has become one of a kind, rendering the few surviving original pieces even more precious. On the new model, the hands, including the small seconds hand at the 9 o'clock position and the large hour markers, are all blue. The case measures 44 mm in diameter, with the crown protection device traditionally positioned on the right, crafted from AISI 316L polished stainless steel just like the case. The strap is crafted from blue alligator leather, echoing the dial colour, and comes with a steel pin buckle sewn onto it, just like the vintage original.
