2016 SIHH Panerai New Products Roundup: Reliving Historical Classics
2016 As the SIHH Geneva International Exhibition of Fine Watchmaking draws to a close, this has been both an exhilarating “ feast ” for the wrist and a wonderful opportunity for watch enthusiasts worldwide to learn and exchange ideas. Faced with an array of stunning new watch releases, one cannot help but marvel at the irresistible allure of the mechanical world.
During this year's Geneva watch fair,Paneraihas once again become the centre of attention. Looking across this year's new releases, the core theme is largely revisiting history and looking back into the past. It is also easy to see that Panerai has maintained its focus on the Radiomir 1940 collection, consecutively launching nearly 10 new timepieces. At the same time, Panerai continues to pursue innovation and exploration, introducing an innovative and complex skeletonised tourbillon.
Panerai Luminor 1950 Skeleton Tourbillon watch

PAM00578
This unprecedented Lo Scienziato watch pays tribute to the genius Galileo Galilei, featuring a case crafted using innovative “ Direct Metal Laser Sintering ” technology, along with a skeletonised tourbillon movement, limited to 150 pieces.
The watch is equipped with a 47 mm diameter Luminor 1950 case, crafted from titanium, with an innovative skeletonised design that embodies the Panerai style. The skeletonised dial features a small seconds sub-dial at the nine o'clock position, showcasing the small internal device that displays the tourbillon rotation; at the three o'clock position, there is another sub-dial displaying day and night, indicated by the central GMT hand. It is powered by a Panerai patented tourbillon P.2005 hand-wound mechanical movement, which features a skeletonised design and provides a power reserve of up to 6 days.
Panerai Luminor 8 Days Power Reserve Limited Edition Pair

This global limited edition of 500 sets of Luminor 8 Days power reserve pairs draws inspiration from two timepieces custom-made by Panerai for American film star Sylvester Stallone in 1996, namely the Luminor Black Seal and Luminor Daylight watches. Today, this re-interpreted pair once again evokes fond memories among watch enthusiasts.
These two watches are presented in an exquisite pearwood presentation box designed for vintage Luminor watches, containing a manned torpedo model (also known as a slow-speed torpedo) mounted on a teak base, accompanied by a precious book featuring data on military equipment used by the Italian Navy special forces, including timepieces and instruments manufactured by Panerai.
Luminor Black Seal 8 Days Power Reserve Left-Handed watch

PAM00786
The Luminor Black Seal Left-Handed 8 Days watch retains the design of the historic Luminor Black Seal, featuring a crown bridge device to protect the crown on the left side of the case. Panerai began producing left-handed operational watches as early as the 1940s, allowing frogmen to wear their watches on the right wrist so they could wear a compass and depth gauge on the left wrist. This new Luminor watch features a case diameter of 44 mm, cast in stainless steel and coated with a Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) finish.
Luminor Daylight 8 Days Long Power Reserve PAM00786 watch

PAM00786
The Luminor Daylight 8 Days watch is a replica of the 1996 model, of which only a few original pieces were produced, making it exceptionally rare. The most distinctive feature of this historic model is its white dial; — while it also adopts the white dial of the period Daylight model, the hour markers and hands are specially selected in a striking blue, and this new replica faithfully reproduces these unique details.
The prototype of this watch is now a rarity, and this new release has been completely redesigned with blue hands, including the small seconds sub-dial at the 9 o'clock position and large hour markers. The case diameter is 44 millimetres, and the crown protection bridge is traditionally positioned on the right side, crafted from polished AISI 316L stainless steel just like the case. The strap is crafted from blue alligator leather, echoing the dial colour and fitted with a steel pin buckle sewn onto it, just like the vintage original.
Panerai Radiomir 1940 collection PAM00655 sports watch

PAM00655
The PAM00655 watch features a refined, elegant, and lightweight design with clean lines. The dial is clear, easy to read, and simple to set, making it a sports watch suitable for any occasion. The watch upholds the unique characteristics of Panerai watches from the 1940s, featuring oversized black numeral hour markers and a small seconds sub-dial at the nine o'clock position. The cushion-shaped case is made of polished AISI 316L stainless steel, with a diameter of 42 mm and a thickness of only 10.93 mm, with both its shape and proportions echoing classic Panerai watch designs. It is powered by a Panerai in-house P.4000 automatic mechanical movement.
Egiziano Piccolo watch replica
In 1954, Panerai first supplied the Egyptian Navy with a series of Egiziano Piccolo watches specially designed for frogman units. At this watch fair, we saw the new Radiomir 1940 3 Days watch designed using this timepiece as a prototype, alongside versions featuring the Luminor 1950 case shape.
Panerai Radiomir 1940 Special Edition 3 Days Power Reserve PAM00662 watch

PAM00662
The original Egiziano Piccolo design was produced in only about 30 to 40 pieces. With its extremely low production numbers, it is one of the most sought-after vintage Panerai watches. The new Radiomir 1940 3 Days watch faithfully reproduces the appearance of the original Egiziano Piccolo while refining it to meet modern high-end sports watch standards. The watch is equipped with the classic 47 mm diameter Radiomir 1940 case, cast in polished AISI 316L stainless steel. The lugs are integrated with the case, and the cylindrical winding crown and watch profile are noble and elegant, complementing the clean lines of the bezel.
Panerai Luminor 1950 collection 3 Days Power Reserve PAM00663 watch

PAM00663
This new replica version is also offered with the classic Luminor 1950 case, similarly featuring a brown dial equipped with the iconic crown protection bridge. The case is cast in polished AISI 316L stainless steel and adopts the classic 47 mm diameter, with its sharp edge lines recalling the case profile of the very first Radiomir watch.
These timepieces are powered by the Panerai in-house P.3000 manual-winding mechanical movement. P.3000 Adhering to Panerai's signature standards of precision and durability, it features twin spring barrels and a 3-day power reserve. The movement is protected by four brushed bridges, one of which is fitted with a dual-support device to secure the balance wheel, ensuring the balance maintains a frequency of 3 Hz (21,600 vibrations per hour). Furthermore, the time-setting mechanism on the P.3000 movement allows the hour hand to be adjusted independently in one-hour increments forward or backward without interfering with the running of the minute hand.
Radiomir 1940 collection
Radiomir 1940 GMT PAM00627 watch
As a key collection promoted by Panerai, the Radiomir 1940 continues its classic design while incorporating significant improvements. The new arrivals offer a variety of creative dial options and are equipped with multiple functions to cater to the needs of different wearers. The main differences between these four PAM00627/PAM00628/PAM00657/PAM00658 watches lie in the dial texture design and the method of power reserve display. Among them, PAM00627 and PAM00657 are powered by the P.4001 movement, while PAM00628 and PAM00658 are powered by the P.4002 movement. Both the P.4001 movement and the P.4002 movement are developed based on the P.4000 automatic mechanical movement, sharing the same primary technical characteristics: an off-centre oscillating weight that winds in both directions, combined with two series-connected spring barrels, ensuring a power reserve of up to three days. The only difference between the P.4001 movement and the P.4002 movement is the method of displaying the power reserve.
