Things you didn't know about watch materials

1, Platinum
As a rare precious metal, platinum is about 30 times rarer than gold. Moreover, its properties are very stable; even if you wear the same watch every day, it will not change and will always remain bright and shiny. Platinum is also resistant to chemical reactions, has strong corrosion resistance, and is the hardest of the precious metals. Nevertheless, platinum is still prone to scratches. Therefore, avoid contact with high-hardness objects, bleach, dishwashing liquid, and similar substances. Naturally, only the most luxurious watches are crafted from platinum.

Generally, watch brands only choose gold materials when launching commemorative or highly artistic watch models to ensure their strong value-retention function. Although gold has a relatively high density, it is prone to wear and deformation if worn for a long time. Therefore, when making watches, gold with a purity of 75% is often used as 18K gold.

3, Rose gold
Compared with gold, rose gold has a more elegant taste. Rose gold is mainly made of 75% pure gold and 25% copper, also known as red gold. Because of the addition of copper, rose gold presents a slight reddish hue, which is less ostentatious than gold. Rose gold is also often chosen as a material for women's watches to highlight their elegant demeanour.
4, White gold
White gold is also a synthetic gold, made of 75% pure gold and 25% zinc or palladium. White gold made with zinc will present a greyish-yellow hue, and it is generally rhodium-plated on the outer layer to keep the watch bright and dazzling. However, there is a disadvantage: the rhodium plating layer will peel off during long-term wear, affecting its appearance. Another type is white gold with palladium; this white gold has a lustrous, uniform white colour and does not require rhodium plating, avoiding many maintenance troubles in the future. Similarly, the cost of this method is high because palladium itself is a precious metal.
5, Titanium
Titanium is a metal with a silvery colour, and it can maintain its own colour at room temperature. Titanium also has properties such as toughness, corrosion resistance, and anti-magnetism, and is widely used in fields such as aerospace and marine diving. Its superior performance and post-modern avant-garde texture are favoured by professional watchmakers and designers, and it has gradually become a new favourite in the high-end watch world.

6, Ceramic
This ceramic is not ordinary ceramic; the high-tech ceramic used in watches is made of mineral powder based on zirconium dioxide sintered at a high temperature of about 1500°C. Like traditional ceramic products, it has stable physical and chemical properties, is waterproof, high-temperature resistant, fade-resistant, and highly corrosion-resistant. The surface of the ceramic material is warm and flawless, emitting a soft, natural lustre. Moreover, ceramic with added titanium metal also has constant temperature characteristics, which can absorb body heat, making it comfortable to wear.
