Heavy gold plating adheres to a much higher standard than standard gold plating, making it exceptionally resistant to fading, particularly PVD gold plating. PVD stands for Physical Vapor Deposition. It refers to a process under vacuum conditions where low-voltage, high-current arc discharge technology evaporates target material and ionises both the vapour and gas. An electric field accelerates the deposition of the evaporated material and its reaction products onto the workpiece, resulting in superior hardness, wear resistance and corrosion resistance.

　　PVD gold plating lasts significantly longer than traditional gold plating. How long it lasts depends on the thickness of the plating. It is rare to see PVD gold plating fade within a few years of wear, though excessive perspiration and exposure to chemicals will affect its service life.
