Newly acquired Blancpain Fifty Fathoms model, along with a brief comparison with the Rolex Submariner Date (Black)
The new Blancpain Fifty Fathoms, which I acquired just a few days ago. I have been busy tinkering with it over the past couple of days, so I haven't had time to show it off. Taking advantage of some free time today, I'm finally sharing it.
I must say that the dial of this watch is genuinely stunning in person, and the finishing across all aspects is extremely refined. I'm not sure if the crystal has an anti-reflective coating, but the gloss is gorgeous. However, one downside of coatings is that overall reflectivity is not very high, so it doesn't look as flashy or eye-catching on the wrist as the Black Submariner.
The dial design is exceptionally well done, offering very high legibility compared to the crowded dial of the Rolex Black Submariner. The luminescence is also very bright, lasting longer in duration than the sandwich dial of the Panerai. The brushed stainless steel case looks very textured and is not prone to scratches. As for the drawbacks, it lacks brilliance; it doesn't have the high-end look provided by the brushed and polished finish of the Black Submariner.
The movement goes without saying: quite classic and practical, accompanied by an attractive exhibition case back design. Additionally, the crown is one of my personal favourite features. I don't know how they engineered it, but pulling it out, pushing it in, and rotating it for adjustment offers the most satisfying feel of any replica watch I've encountered, with precise positioning and exceptional tactile feedback.
Furthermore, its hour marker design is also well executed, featuring luminescent material set within highly reflective circular metal surrounds. The metallic reflection is superb, making them look like tiny diamonds against the finely finished dial.
Conclusion: The timing bezel on this Fifty Fathoms is gorgeous, and the dial markers are aligned with absolute precision, showing virtually no deviation. The crown is very stiff and requires considerable force to rotate, which has the advantage of preventing accidental rotation. The Black Submariner I wore previously often had the bezel accidentally rotated out of place while wearing it. Additionally, the NATO strap has an average texture but is very comfortable to wear; I hope strap replacement services can be provided so that there are more options available.
