Winter is here: is it better to wear a leather strap or a stainless steel bracelet?
Coming into the office this morning, while waiting at a traffic light, I saw a man wearing a stainless steel bracelet watch; the bright silver strap looked very striking against his dark blue padded jacket. As someone whose wrists get cold easily, I don't wear anything cold on my wrist during winter; if I wear a watch, it has to be on a leather strap, so I found it a bit surprising. So, in winter, is it better to wearleather watch strapbetter orstainless steel bracelet watchbetter?
This is a common question: which is better, a leather strap or a stainless steel bracelet? In fact, they each have their own pros and cons. The advantages of a stainless steel bracelet are mainly twofold: first, it is sturdy, durable, and easy to maintain; second, it has a rugged aesthetic that looks more masculine. These advantages apply regardless of the season. However, compared to leather straps, stainless steel bracelets can lose their lustre (become dull), so they require polishing after a period of use to help extend their lifespan (PS: stainless steel bracelets are not immune to water; they should be wiped clean if they get wet, as they can rust over time).

Although stainless steel bracelets have many advantages, in winter, the cold metal—which is a benefit in summer—becomes a drawback. The ambient temperature is low in winter, and even if the side touching the skin warms up, the surface remains cold and can feel chilly if bumped. Furthermore, some people do not wear their watches tightly, and the gap between the wrist and the bracelet can also become cold. Even if one wants to wear the watch over a sweater sleeve, it is not always convenient. Most stainless steel bracelet watches, unlike leather strap models, cannot be adjusted freely and require special tools to resize the bracelet. This is undoubtedly less convenient, and I suspect that few men would accept wearing a watch over their clothing; this is a style more often favoured by fashionable women.

Compared with a stainless steel bracelet, wearing a leather strap in winter is far more comfortable. Thanks to its soft texture, it lacks the coldness and rigidity of metal. People naturally have a special affinity for leather, particularly in winter when leather jackets and boots are immensely popular. Moreover, leather straps are more stylish, elegant, and refined, exuding a classic gentlemanly charm. Leather straps also appear more high-end (provided they are not of poor quality), and indeed many luxury watch brands predominantly use leather straps. Furthermore, for individuals allergic to metals such as stainless steel, a leather strap is an excellent choice.
However, winter brings increased rain, snow, and moisture, making leather straps less practical than stainless steel bracelets in these damp conditions.
Is it better to wear a steel bracelet or a leather strap in winter? There is no absolute answer. People who feel the cold easily, like myself, tend to prefer watches with leather straps, which suit us well. However, if someone finds a steel bracelet more comfortable and prefers it, that works just as well. It is like winter swimming: as long as your constitution can handle it, it simply comes down to personal preference.
