How to check the authenticity of Tissot watches

Watch AuthenticationPublished

Tissot watches were born in 1853 in Switzerland, the cradle of watchmaking, and have a history of over 150 years. In the domestic market, Tissot watches are very popular among middle-to-low income individuals. However, counterfeiters have exploited this, leading to a large number of fake products on the market. Below, Watch Home introduces how to identify the authenticity of Tissot watches.

Comparison of watch movements and markings. Today, there are thousands of watch brands, and the quality of movements varies. This includes genuine Swiss 2824 movements, commonly known as yellow movements. Japanese 2035 movements are often used in fake Tissot quartz watches. Fake mechanical watches often use Guangzhou Mingzhu movements or Japanese original Orient movements. Those using Guangzhou Mingzhu movements are usually the lowest quality fakes, while mid-to-high-end fakes often use Japanese original Orient movements. When purchasing a Tissot watch, customers must carefully check the movement model and markings; fake movement markings are often obvious at a glance. Additionally, observe the movement's finish; genuine original movements have clear lettering. Finally, listen to the sound of the movement; genuine original movements generally have a clear and crisp sound.

Comparison of appearance and functionality. In addition to the movement, carefully observe the case, bracelet, dial and crystal. Look at the finish and quality of the Tissot case. Check if the edges are smooth and refined; fake cases are often rough with poor workmanship. Genuine Tissot watch indices are clear and full, while fake hands and indices are often blurred. Furthermore, you can distinguish authenticity from small details like the corners, as fake watches often have poor craftsmanship and cannot replicate the serial numbers and patterns found on the inside of genuine cases and dials. Finally, there is a significant difference in functionality between genuine and fake Tissot watches. Most fake Tissot watches have features (such as moon phase, perpetual calendar, tourbillon, etc.) that are merely decorative. The hands are also a major difference; genuine Tissot watches have strict requirements for the length, thickness, style and material of the hands. High-end Tissot watches use "blued steel hands," which have a rich, deep blue colour achieved through complex craftsmanship. On fake watches, the blue colour is simply painted on, as they cannot achieve such high-level craftsmanship.

Comparing watch boxes, instruction manuals, and warranty cards. Authentic watches are supplied with a watch box, which is red in this case; the external design and packaging of such watches are highly sophisticated. The production serial number of the Tissot watch is found on the exterior of the box, while the instruction manual and warranty card are located inside. If these items are missing, the product is likely a replica. The image below shows the watch box packaging.
