How to Identify Hamilton Watches and Spot Counterfeits
Hamilton is an American watch brand known for its strong sporty and casual aesthetic. Hamilton features two main lines: American Classic and Khaki Field/Navy/Aviation, both rooted in the brand's American heritage while combining modern design with Swiss watchmaking techniques. How can you tell a genuine Hamilton watch from a counterfeit?

On a genuine Hamilton watch, the logos and branding on the dial and case back are crisp and complete, and the stated jewel count matches the actual movement jewel count. Counterfeit watches typically exhibit rough finishing, misaligned hands, and inaccurate timekeeping upon close inspection. Authentic Hamilton timepieces showcase refined craftsmanship that fake watches fail to replicate.
The materials marked on the case back must match the actual case construction (an all-steel case has a subtle metallic lustre, whereas a base-metal plated case appears bright silver-white). The crystal glass should be clear and smooth, the outer edges of the case components free from sharp burrs, and the plating free of bubbles or peeling.
On a genuine Hamilton movement, rubies or sapphires are visible in most jewel holes. Shock-resistant watches feature a gold setting around the cap jewel above the balance wheel, housing the shock-absorber spring. In contrast, inferior counterfeit watches often use single-jewel movements where the pivot holes are simply recessed brass matching the bridge plate. Some low-quality fakes even paint the pivot holes red to simulate jewels.
On a genuine movement, rubies or sapphires are visible in most jewel holes. Shock-resistant watches feature a gold setting around the cap jewel above the balance wheel, housing the shock-absorber spring, whereas inferior watches often feature only a single jewel, with pivot holes matching the brass colour and concave shape of the bridge plate.
The price of imported watches remains stable over a certain period. Hamilton watches are classified as mid-range American brands, with prices starting from over two thousand and reaching up to tens of thousands. Watches from dubious sources or those with surprisingly low prices can be considered replicas.
