Swiss ETA7750 chronograph movement

Article ArchivePublished

ETA7750 is another proud calibre. Its predecessor was the Valjoux 7750; Valjoux is a renowned movement manufacturer, particularly famous for its complex chronograph movements. The manual-winding Rolex Daytona was equipped with its 72 calibre.

Becoming a highly sought-after model today, the Valjoux 7750 was released in 1974. Initially, it featured a 17-jewel design, which was later changed to 25 jewels. Since being acquired by ETA in the 80s, the name Valjoux is rarely used, except for movements produced before the acquisition in the 80s. The ETA 7750 was released on 1974 7 1 and became a calibre that ETA is proud of, commonly found in automatic chronographs and complicated watches from various brands for many years. The standard 7750 is equipped with 17 rubies, has a power reserve of 42 hours, and vibrates at 28800 times per hour. It uses a unidirectional winding design and features a pointer-style fine adjustment device similar to the eccentric screw principle, with a scale indicator to facilitate fine-tuning. The image below shows a replica Rolex Daytona equipped with an automatic 7750 movement.

This model features automatic winding, small seconds, double calendar, and chronograph (60 seconds, 30 minutes, 12 hours), with 25 jewels and a frequency of 28,800 vibrations per hour.

What is the simplest way to identify ETA-7750? 99% of watches with sub-dials at the 6, 9, and 12 o'clock positions are ETA-7750, but this cannot be reversed; if a watch does not have sub-dials at the 6, 9, and 12 o'clock positions, it does not necessarily mean that 99% of them are not ETA-7750. It is like a 'Transformer'; its advantage lies not only in its durability but also in its versatility. From 2 sub-dial to 3 sub-dials or 4 sub-dials, they can all be modified from ETA-7750.

ETA, full name ETA SA Manufacture Horlogère Suisse, is a Swiss manufacturer of blank movements, with products including mechanical/quartz watch and clock movements. Owned by the world's largest watch group, the Swatch Group, ETA itself was formed through the merger and acquisition of several movement factories, including the famous Adolf Schild (AS), Valjoux, and Unitas.
