Watch Buying Guide Series — Choosing a Watch Dealer

Article ArchivePublished

Whether for a novice or an experienced collector, choosing the right watch dealer is a form of security. Although some channels may offer lower discounts, the risks increase accordingly. I often see posts online, and many new customers report various experiences of being deceived or misled when buying watches. A reliable seller is the only viable path. In my opinion, when it comes to collecting watches, especially replicas, you are not just buying a watch, but the seller's attitude and service. A good watch is carefully selected and calibrated. Therefore, the seller's service attitude directly determines the quality of the watch.

One. Choose a professional shop. What is professional? It refers to the salesperson's knowledge of watches. Just imagine, if the seller does not understand watches, what kind of guarantee can they provide to the buyer? It might just be a private online shop sourcing goods from others to earn the price difference. In such a shop, if your watch really has any problems, they cannot solve them and will have to rely on their supplier, wasting time.

Two. Physical shops: You should try to choose a physical shop. From the perspective of price and selection, physical shops offer more convenience, with enough styles available to choose from, allowing you to select the best quality watch.

Step three. After-sales service at watch shops: Usually, large, reputable watch shops have professional maintenance and after-sales services. After-sales service includes services both within and outside the warranty period. Reputable watch shops have clearly marked prices for their after-sales services, with standardised pricing for different brands and repair items, avoiding unnecessary suspicion. At the same time, there are certain standards for repair technicians, who are required to have professional certifications; the professional quality of the repair technician also determines whether the watch sent for repair receives high-quality service and workmanship.

Step four. Pre-sales service at watch shops: Pre-sales service here refers to the professional quality of the sales staff in the watch shop. An excellent watch shop assistant will recommend watch models suitable for the consumer and can help the consumer manage their budget. Of course, as a watch enthusiast, there are higher requirements, such as the service attitude of the staff and the level of professionalism in introducing watch models and brands. Although one cannot expect the staff to reach the level of a watch critic, they should at least be able to guide the buyer and provide references.

Based on the above considerations, I have summarised the lessons learned by many watch enthusiasts, and I hope this is helpful to you.
