Caring for your jewellery watch

This watch features a combination of channel, claw, and pave settings.
A jewellery watch is not merely a timekeeping tool; it is a beautiful piece of jewellery that requires your careful and gentle attention to remain as radiant as new. While mechanical watches, with their intricate beauty, have traditionally been the preferred choice for men, jewellery watches have long been a favourite among ladies. However, as times change, more men are choosing to wear jewellery watches, and more women are appreciating mechanical timepieces. Stereotypes regarding gender and watch styles are fading; what remains unchanged is the need for meticulous care, especially for jewellery watches, which require a gentle touch.

A jewellery watch is not just a timekeeping tool, but a stunning accessory that makes you shine. The most common gemstones used in jewellery watches include diamonds, emeralds, sapphires, rubies, and pearls. Among these, the sparkling diamond is the most popular. The quality of the diamond is of great importance to a jewellery watch, so one must be cautious when selecting, and 4C can serve as a useful reference. The term 4C refers to Carat, Clarity, Colour, and Cut. Carat is the unit of weight for diamonds, with each carat consisting of 100 points; this is the easiest factor to determine in 4C. However, two diamonds of the same weight can vary significantly in value due to differences in clarity, colour, and cut. Most diamonds contain minute inclusions; these do not necessarily detract from the beauty of the diamond, but the fewer and smaller the inclusions, the less they interfere with the passage of light, resulting in a more brilliant sparkle. This is why many high-end jewellery watches often claim a diamond grade of FL (Flawless), IF (Internally Flawless), or VVS1/VVS2 (Very, Very Slightly Included, invisible to the naked eye), referring to the clarity. Regarding colour, the closer to colourless a diamond is, the more easily light can pass through it, allowing it to emit a rainbow-like spectrum from the crown. Cut refers to the shaping of the diamond's facets; regardless of the shape, a masterfully executed cut allows the stone to capture more light and reflect more brilliance, making it a true work of art.
