Patek Philippe 2007 new watch

 

    In 2007, Patek Philippe released a brand new platinum tonneau-shaped watch, the Chronometro Gondolo Ref.5098P. The name of this timepiece originates from the watches produced by Patek Philippe in the last century for Gondolo & Labouriau in Rio de Janeiro. Before being discontinued in 1927, this collection featured various case shapes such as square, rectangular, tonneau, and cushion, prompting Patek Philippe to name all of its non-round watches the Chronometro Gondolo collection. Inspired by the namesake timepiece from 1925, the case profile of this 5098P tonneau-shaped watch has been refined with slightly curved lines for a more comfortable fit, while the sapphire crystal glass and case back feature smooth arched curves.

    Aside from its outstanding appearance, the 5098P houses the 25-21 REC PS, the first simple non-round movement by Patek Philippe since the 1930s. The 25-21 REC PS movement features an elegantly shaped S-shaped minute wheel bridge, along with a slender pallet lever and fourth wheel bridge, continuing an architecture derived from the perfect movement design of the early 20th century Chronometro Gondolo.
