Which watches are susceptible to magnetism and methods for diagnosing magnetised watches
Firstly, vintage watches require particular attention regarding anti-magnetic properties, as do watches fitted with vintage movements; their materials are not produced according to modern techniques and their magnetic resistance is relatively weak. Secondly, ultra-thin watches are easily magnetised. Because ultra-thin movements have limited space, conventional anti-magnetic measures (such as shielding magnetic fields via a thick case) are difficult to implement. In addition, mechanical watches encounter magnetic fields with increasing frequency and intensity in modern daily life. Setting aside the impact on timekeeping accuracy, leaving a watch in a strong magnetic environment for extended periods causes considerable damage to the movement.Replica watchesMechanical movements hold absolute dominance; if even operating accuracy cannot be guaranteed, then any other function is simply superfluous.
Basic knowledge of watch magnetic resistance:
I. Watch anti-magnetic specifications
Japanese watches: usually divided into 3 types: unmarked anti-magnetic, standard anti-magnetic, and enhanced anti-magnetic.
Unmarked anti-magnetic: able to resist a magnetic field of 1600A/m (equivalent to 20 gauss).
Standard anti-magnetic: able to resist a magnetic field of 4800A/m (equivalent to 60 gauss).
Enhanced anti-magnetic: able to resist a magnetic field of 16000A/m (equivalent to 200 gauss).

combined with a fully sealed soft-iron anti-magnetic inner case with virtually no openings, elevating the anti-magnetic performance to the level of 100000A/m, making it a paragon of anti-magnetic timepieces.
II. Attenuation of magnetic fields with distance
The strength of a magnetic field is inversely proportional to the 2 power of the distance; as the distance increases, the magnetic field strength decays sharply.
Standard anti-magnetic watches are sufficiently safe as long as they are kept 5cm away from the aforementioned magnetic objects. Even watches without an anti-magnetic rating are safe if kept slightly further away (beyond 10cm). In daily life, with just a little care, you can avoid the hazards of magnetic fields to watches, and there is no need to panic about magnetism.

3. Examples of common magnetic objects
Mobile phones, telephone receivers, computers, electric shavers, radios, magnetic clasps on handbags, refrigerator doors, induction cookers, magnetic bracelets, magnetic pillows, etc.
The hazards of mechanical watches becoming magnetised
The running speed of a mechanical watch is controlled by the balance spring and balance wheel. Once magnetised, the magnetic force alters the oscillation frequency of the balance wheel, thereby changing the operating speed of the gear train, causing the watch to run wildly. After being magnetised, the watch may stop, run slow, or run fast. Mild cases may result in a daily error of tens of seconds. Severe cases can see daily errors reaching several minutes. The magnetism in a magnetised watch will not dissipate on its own and requires demagnetisation servicing to return to normal.

Methods for diagnosing a magnetised watch
Constantly and paranoically suspecting whether your watch is magnetised can seriously affect your peace of mind. Here is a simple method to diagnose a magnetised watch: buy a compass from a street stall, and bring the watch close to the compass. If the compass needle deflects violently, the watch is magnetised. Even if the watch is not magnetised, because watches are made of steel, the compass needle will still move slightly when brought close, but the degree of deflection will be very small.
This method can also be used to detect whether a magnetic field exists where you store your watch. Take the compass to the storage location; if the compass needle deflects, there are suspicious magnetic objects nearby. Household steel tools, such as pliers, often approach magnetic objects and become magnetised without one realising it. The watch storage area should be kept away from such magnetised tools.
