Essential things to note when having a watch repaired
Watch repair is a very complex process. However, due to a lack of understanding, many friends hand their watches over to a technician for repair, and if the technician tampering with it in some way, you would not even know, potentially getting scammed out of your watch without realising. Today, Xiaoya brings you the precautions to take when repairing a watch. Take a look right away if you don't want to be tricked and cheated.

Precautions for watch repair
One: Carefully examine the repair estimate, and make sure you agree on the price with the watchmaker before handing the watch over to them.
Two: As far as possible, avoid quick repairs and do not trust promises of "while-you-wait" service, because inspection and practical testing are indispensable parts of watch repair. It is impossible to hand the watch straight back to the customer without verifying the operational reliability of the timepiece.
Three: Try your best to choose reputable watch shops or those located inside large department stores, as large stores also exercise a regulatory constraint over individual watch repair stalls.
Four: Be sure not to blindly trust a watch shop's advertisements. Check their repair equipment and watch oils; ask them to bring out all their watch oils for inspection. If they have fewer than 4 to 5 types of watch oil, you should not get your watch repaired there.
Five: After the repair, always request all the replaced parts back, especially watches where gears or circuit boards were replaced during the service.
Sixth: Have a basic understanding of your own watch's fault. The probability of a watch having a broken gear or a quartz watch having a broken circuit board is extremely small. If it really is broken, the corresponding fault symptoms will reflect this; it is impossible for these problems to appear out of thin air in a perfectly fine watch.
Seventh: Be sure to request a repair invoice and a detailed registration sheet covering the repair contents. The replaced parts must also be listed, and if they are imported parts, this must also be indicated, and then have him stamp it properly.
Eighth: If you are from out of town, do not speak with a regional accent; it is best to bring a local friend along with you. Nowadays, repairing a watch is treated like guarding against thieves. However, you should use the tactic of warning off potential wrongdoers when necessary, and not give any unscrupulous watch shops any opportunity to defraud you.

Precautions for watch maintenance
1, Daily winding
For manual-winding mechanical watches, it is recommended to manually wind them for 20 to 30 turns for the first use. After that, it is best to wind the watch regularly every day.
Automatic mechanical watches, on the other hand, rely mainly on arm movement to wind automatically. If winding is insufficient, manual winding can be used to supplement it. Generally, well-designed mechanical watches feature a slipping spring design to prevent the mainspring from being overwound and breaking. Therefore, the crown will not reach a hard stop even if turned for 1 days.
2, Keep away from magnetic fields
Among everyday appliances, microwaves, irons, fax machines, electric shavers, vacuum cleaners, and even the mobile phones and computers we use daily can cause a watch to become magnetised to some extent. Isn't that alarming?
It is necessary to be mindful of magnetism, especially when you are frequently exposed to it. For example, wearing your watch while shaving at home or using a vacuum cleaner, or the magnetic clasps found on some women's handbags—these all generate relatively strong magnetic fields that can, to varying degrees, affect timekeeping.
In addition, when typing on a laptop in the office, it is recommended to take off your watch and place it aside. This not only reduces the chance of the watch becoming magnetised, preventing trouble before it starts, but also makes your wrist more comfortable.
3. Water resistance issues
When referring to watch water resistance, it means the watch's water resistance reaches three atmospheres, and it will still not seep water when placed statically at a depth of 30 metres. In general water resistance descriptions, 30-metre water resistance refers to general daily water resistance, such as water droplets splashed when washing hands or falling raindrops; 50-metre water resistance is not much different from 30 metres; 100-metre water resistance is sufficient for car washing and showering; 300-metre water resistance allows for shallow swimming activities; and 500-metre water resistance allows for diving down to about 200 to 500 metres.
It should be noted that any mechanical watch claiming to be water-resistant, anti-magnetic, or shock-resistant is afraid of hot baths, car washes, dishwashing, and hot springs! High temperatures, hot water, soapy water, and chemical detergents can cause the waterproof gaskets to age and deform, or cause water vapour to condense inside the watch, leading to chronic damage. In addition, never pull out the crown in water, as water will enter the watch directly.
After reading the above content, I believe everyone has gained some understanding of watch repairs. You should pay attention to these points when taking your watch to a watchmaker for repair in the future.
