Rolex Submariner16613 Rolex Submariner Panama Canal Limited Commemorative Watch
Located in the middle of the American continent and spanning the Isthmus of Panama, the Panama Canal is a lock-type canal connecting the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans. The canal is 81.3 kilometres long, with a minimum width of 152 metres and a maximum width of 304 metres. The United States signed the Panama Canal Treaty in 1903, gaining the right to construct the canal and the right to 'perpetual use, occupation and control' of the canal and the Canal Zone. The Panama Canal was officially opened to navigation on the 1914 of 8, 15. The opening of the canal shortened the voyage between the east and west coasts of the Americas by 7,000 to 8,000 nautical miles, and the voyage between Asia and Europe by 4,000 to 5,000 nautical miles. Since its opening, the Panama Canal has greatly promoted the development of the global shipping industry.

The Panama Canal is therefore renowned as the 'bridge of the world'. However, the United States turned the Canal Zone into a veritable colony, appointing a governor, enforcing American law, and establishing the United States Southern Command, which stationed tens of thousands of American troops, effectively making the Canal Zone a 'state within a state'. In 1977 9, the United States and Panama signed the new Panama Canal Treaty and the Treaty Concerning the Permanent Neutrality and Operation of the Panama Canal. From 1999 12 31, the United States officially ended its colonial rule in Central and South America. To commemorate the return of the Panama Canal Zone, the Rolex Submariner Panama limited edition commemorative watch was released, featuring the Panama Canal totem on the dial and a limited edition number engraved on the case back, limited to 75 pieces (a mix of stainless steel models Ref.16610 and 18K two-tone models Ref.16613).

Putting aside the political infighting or the bullying by major powers surrounding the Panama Canal, Rolex's marketing can be described as ubiquitous. Its ingenious execution leaves one pondering long afterwards. Examples of international events utilised by Rolex for marketing include the POW Cosmograph and the Panama Canal; sporting events such as the Daytona 24, the America's Cup, and the Masters Tournament; exploration endeavours like swimming the English Channel and scaling Mount Everest; research organisations such as COMEX and the United States military; and even cross-industry collaborations with Tiffany, Cartier, Eaton, Coca-Cola, and Pan Am.

Of course, many competitors believe that Rolex products lack a striking appearance and simply pander to the public, which is not the marketing approach expected of a prestigious traditional watch manufacturer with a rich history. However, while Rolex continually generates discussion, it simultaneously stays the correct course with functions such as waterproofing, automatic winding, shock resistance and the date display. As a result, 100 years have passed, and facts have proven that Rolex's efforts and persistence back then have indeed caused the quality and value of Rolex to expand exponentially like ripples in water.
