Oris Divers Sixty-Five Silver Dial Diver's Watch
Amid the recent surge of new releases,Oris's 42mm Divers Sixty-Five dive collection has welcomed a timely new addition. Although the series already features blue and green dials, this time the brand introduces an entirely unexpected shade—a silver dial. Within a collection built around a classic vintage theme, this timepiece stands out as an absolute highlight. In the realm of diver's watches, adopting a silver dial is certainly a bold, unconventional choice. Naturally, this silver-dial Sixty-Five diver maintains a clean and crisp layout with outstanding legibility. If one were to curate a shortlist of entry-level dive watches, this model would easily make my top three.

If you are an Oris enthusiast who regularly follows the Oris section on watch forums, you are likely familiar with most variations in the Sixty-Five dive series. If that is not the case (╯-_-)╯╧╧, we have a brief review article for your reference → The 1965 re-edition Divers Sixty-Five dive watch was launched at Baselworld in 2015, featuring a 40mm size and a black dial—a modern interpretation based on Oris's 1965 original diver's model. This timepiece and its subsequent lineup remain among the brand's best-selling products to this day. The Divers Sixty-Five models all boast a robust case, tastefully restrained retro styling, superb quality, cool aesthetics, a dependable engine and an accessible price point (below 2000 Euros), making them an absolute essential companion.

Following the 40mm model from 2015, the brand introduced a 42mm size version. While still adhering to the retro theme, it brought subtle dial redesigns that feel more traditionally classic and professional—starting with the blue dial version, closely followed by the green dial. The luminescent dot and block hour markers return to vintage fundamentals, offering a distinct sense of heritage compared to the earlier numeral designs. The new model fully meets diving requirements: 100m water resistance (perhaps a bit modest, but ample for 99% of wearers), a 60-minute rotating dive bezel, a clean, highly legible dial and crisp luminescence displays. Overall, it is not merely an eye-catching piece, but a standout timepiece combining fine performance, excellent value and superior quality. Yet these are not the main focus of this article, as we are here to discuss the new silver dial Divers Sixty-Five from Oris; and as a 'Diver 65', opting for a silver appearance certainly raises a few intriguing questions.

Before addressing the curiosity surrounding the silver dial, let us appreciate its stunningly clear design. It is truly handsome. While other Sixty-Five timepieces already exude a strong vintage feel, this silver dial edition—especially when paired with a brown leather strap—stands out as the most classically styled among them, even without any direct historical predecessor. The metallic dial presents a genuine silver hue rather than grey, giving an overall impression that is bright, lively and warm, far from the cold tone shown in official Oris press imagery. Under ambient lighting, these characteristics immediately shine through, explaining why it looks even more classically vintage in person. Furthermore, the hour markers appear almost yellow in stock photos, but in reality, they feature a fresh, clean cream tone. Additionally, the excellent refined details of the 65 series are fully preserved: metal-framed hour markers, a trapezoidal date window, a domed crystal, crisp typography and logos... It is truly captivating.

However, there is a point of debate raised by some watch enthusiasts: from both safety and legibility perspectives, dive watches should feature dark dials rather than such a bright layout. Indeed, we have briefly discussed this topic in previous articles, and dive timepieces with white or light grey dials are exceptionally rare. Why is that? Put simply, a diver's watch is a tool instrument that must offer optimal legibility in low-light conditions, requiring high-contrast dials and hands—which is why the vast majority feature black or dark-toned dials. What about this silver dial 65 dive watch then? As seen in the images below, its contrast is by no means inferior to the black dial version, and once underwater, the luminescent dots and block markers become the true single focus.

Overall, this Oris Divers Sixty-Five series diving watch is a very pleasing timepiece, whether in terms of quality, appearance or performance, and most importantly, it still offers outstanding value for money, which is, after all, the main prerequisite for making a purchase. The Divers Sixty-Five watch fitted with a rubber strap or leather strap is priced at 1850 Euros, while the version with a riveted bracelet is priced at 2050 Euros. It will be available in the spring of 2017, following the Baselworld exhibition.
