Vacheron Constantin creation for the Only Watch charity auction
The special "Only Watch" model meticulously designed by Vacheron Constantin for this charity auction demonstratesVacheron Constantinan outstanding contribution to charitable causes; although simple in design, it encompasses multiple layers of meaning, leaving ample room for imagination.
This timepiece brings together Vacheron Constantin's "Métiers d’Art" master artisans in exceptionally close collaboration: engravers, enamellers, gemsetters, and guillocheurs must combine their expertise to create this rare and unique masterpiece. Entitled "Métiers d’Art – Perspectives d’Art" and created exclusively for the "Only Watch" charity auction, it employs tessellation jewellery-decorating techniques to explore the interplay between human perspective, geometric shapes, and space. Utilising Vacheron Constantin's refined, traditional watchmaking decorative arts, this watch interprets the world from humanity's perception and viewpoint using simple geometric shapes, symbolic patterns, and continuously evolving imagery. It articulates the aforementioned "concepts" through 18K white gold, enamel, and diamond-set dials, expressing them via artisanal techniques while imbuing these shapes, patterns, and images with manifold layers of meaning and interpretation.
This watch draws inspiration from the works of Maurits Cornelis Escher (1898-1972), the renowned Dutch graphic artist and printmaker renowned for his mastery of structure, architecture, perspective, and the playful misplacement of space—namely, visual "optical illusions". This unique timepiece features red and white doves on the dial—the signature colours of the "Only Watch" charity auction. The dial is a collaborative creation by Vacheron Constantin's master artisans; with doves having always been a symbol of hope and peace, they are rendered in fired enamel or set with precious stones, interlocking like a jigsaw puzzle. The artisans' techniques thus transform the elements on this dial into striking decorative features. Housed within the case is the high-precision, self-winding mechanical Calibre 2460, bearing the Hallmark of Geneva and designed and manufactured entirely in-house by Vacheron Constantin. Not only does it deliver admirable reliability, but every bridge and component also adheres to the most prestigious norms of traditional Genevan watchmaking, finished with superlative hand-executed decorative techniques.
A unique timepiece produced in a single piece specially for the "Only Watch" charity auction. This charitable event was initiated by the Monegasque Association against Muscular Dystrophy (AMM); the case back of this watch is engraved with the inscriptions "Only Watch 2011" and "Pièce unique".
It is believed that this watch will undoubtedly become a sought-after bestseller pursued by numerous watch connoisseurs, with Vacheron Constantin having long been dedicated toluxury watchdesign for many years, ensuring that enthusiasts of Vacheron Constantin will certainly not be disappointed this time.
