　　Aside from the higher cost, the reason is likely that this steel is extremely difficult to process. Manufacturing904Lsteel requires a very strict process. During the initial casting, the metal is re-melted into a vacuum container to remove impurities in the mould; these impurities would affect the metal's corrosion resistance and cause issues during the polishing process. The casting results are confirmed for quality via electron microscope scanning. Finally, only strictly selected cast products are used for watch manufacturing. In order to process904Lsteel, Rolex replaced most of its previously used metal processing equipment and tools. This was possible because Rolex has sufficient production volume and they produce all their own components in-house, whereas most brands purchase parts from external suppliers. Therefore, although904Lsteel performance is superior to316Lsteel, due to higher costs, the requirement for special equipment and technology for processing, and greater difficulty in handling, no other brands choose to use this steel.
